I'm so with you Kiana, and Mr. X...very proud of your comments on this article. It's like blaming a woman for being raped. Geraldo has a lot to learn--his perception is sad and attempts to detract blame from people OWNING their errant perceptions and generalized stereotypes. He stated that Trayvon's clothing "allowed someone to think that he was up to no good.
This is truly typical Fox News...and Geraldo must have self-image issues that go deeper. At the end, it really REALLY burned me when he stated that Trayvon should have gone out "dressed appropirately"...and then went on to say "unless it's raining out...then leave it at home". Well IT WAS raining out--he was going to 7-eleven, and it WAS raining--I'm sorry Gerald(o)...but is that not a very appropriate time to wear it then??
He had the nerve to refer to his son's complexion, but I doubt he is proud of it. He seemed to mention it out of convenience. Why a white male teenager should be able to wear hoodies, but not young black and latino males is a clear attempt at justifying racial profiling and dangerous generalizations.
Now Rush is a man after my own heart!! Representing the black man to the max!! We need more black leaders like Rush and Obama!! Whatever happens out there affects us down here. As for Geraldos' weak-half-ass apology, too little too late. Freaking ass kissing uncle Tom!
"I don't understand why people like myself only hate their own damn self!!" Everybody has a right to have their own style. When we start saying that because you are black you can't be an individual, that you must worry about being victimized for choosing to like certain clothes, then you are belittling the point that black people been fighting for for decades: We have the same rights that everybody else does. Kdrumjeff I wonder what you would have commented if some Marsha Brady wantabe was shot in a black neighborhood for wearing that messed up plaid her type seems to favor. Would you have said she was "calling trouble on" herself?. Just because you don't like the way someone dresses does not make them a bad person. Hell in the nineties we all wore those duck martins and all the rest that came with it. Our parents and many others thought it was vulgar and disgusting. Yet today most of us are doctors, lawyers, writers, journalists and the like. Every decade has its own style. We don't have a right to SHOOT PEOPLE because we don't approve of their dressing.
One of my favorite songs says: WHEN YOU BLACK YOU JUST BLACK YOU CAN'T HELP BUT BE BLACK, BUT BECAUSE YOU ARE BLACK YOU DON'T STAY IN THE BACK. BE BLACK, BE BLACK BUT BE CONSCIOUS.
That has got to be the most racist BS I've heard in a while. It put me in mind of the KKK thinking its OK to kill, mutilate and humiliate another human being because they are black. Now this idiot (for lack of a better word) is saying that its a justifiable homicide because the young boy was black and wearing a hoodie? Seriously? Now black people are being told what to wear? We can ride the bus now and not give up our seats to white people, but now we must wear hoodies at our own risk? What's next black people will have to register their clothing with the powers that be before we are allowed to go out in public with them?
Like getting arrested for driving while black was not bad enough, now we must worry about our kids getting killed for wearing hoodies while black? This is some messed up s***! Geraldo or Gerald or whatever he is calling himself today, statement is wrong on so many levels that I for one will never watch any program on FOX again for airing that KKK s***. I think all black people should do the same and boycott FOX until they either disassociate themselves from that statement or fire/suspend that self hating Uncle Tom.
First of all, his hoodie comment is a bullshit generalization about black youth. A young man should be able to wear a hoodie and not be classified as a thug, hoodlum, gang banger, trouble maker or any other name they want to make up.
Ow and F*** Fox news !!!!!
Gerald is more than a sell out , he is a twosided f** face , not liked by his own kind , and definitely not respected by the white man ! To all those ppl that think a hoodie is a reason to kill someone , you should kill yourself . Hoodies are worn by white kids (skater boys) ect , and in some cases even more than black kids ! If the script should flip , or the shoe on the other foot , we would be deep behind bars , or dead before we made it to the station !!!!!!!! If this cowardly ass act is called neighbor hood watch then I want no white neighbors else ah Gun shot !!!!!!!
