Wrongfully convicted man who spent 23 years in prison will receive 1.5Million - Is that a slap in the FACE?

Lamonte McIntyre learned Monday he will receive $1.5 million for a wrongful conviction that resulted in him spending 23 years in a Kansas prison.

McIntyre was wrongly convicted of the 1994 murders of Donald Ewing and Doniel Quinnand sentenced to life in prison when he was just 17 years old. McIntyre was exonerated in October 2017 and freed from prison. Last year, he filed a lawsuit against the state of Kansas under a statute involving mistaken convictions. The law, which was passed in 2018, now allows prisoners who were wrongfully convicted to sue the state and seek monetary damages.

Along with the $1.5 million settlement, McIntyre will also receive two years of state health care benefits, counseling and a tuition wavier to pursue a college degree. His conviction, arrest and any DNA profile record information will also be expunged, according to CNN

“Today, Lamonte McIntyre has been declared, finally and conclusively, a completely innocent man,” Cheryl A. Pilate, McIntyre’s lawyer, told CNN. “That long-overdue recognition, along with the statutory payment and other benefits, will help lighten a bit the heavy load he has carried.”

“In this case, our office worked diligently to obtain and review all available evidence, including evidence identified but not provided in the earlier judicial proceedings,” Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt released in a statement“We were ultimately able to resolve all issues, satisfy all of the statute’s requirements, and agree to this outcome so Mr. McIntyre can receive the benefits to which he is entitled by law because of his mistaken conviction.”

After he was exonerated in 2017, McIntyre co-founded the nonprofit, Miracle of Innocence, that helps others who are wrongfully incarcerated. McIntyre also co-owns Headlines Barber Academy in Kansas City.
In an interview with CNN affiliate KMBC last year, McIntyre said: “I’m not angry. I’m frustrated because I don’t like to see this kind of injustice happen to nobody.”

No amount of money can make up for the years he has lost!  It's nice that he will have a little nest egg to start a life but he can not go back from that day of incarceration and have those years back and that's the hurtful part of it all.

One day I stop by the KFC and there are tons of homeless there. This guy was laid out next to the entrance sleep. When I came out, he pops up and says "can I get some of that chicken"! Man, I wanted to step on that fools neck!

caribmama some of them are not even homeless, they write a long list of why they cannot work, it takes time and energy to do all that than stand in different corner all day, they have more time and patient to find a job if they wanted to

What kills me everyday is some of these homeless people. I know most have serious problems and can't be a productive member of society, but the ones that have two arms, two legs, eyes, ears, tongue and a brain, you standing in the middle of traffic sticking it in everybody's car for money. Then get mad when someone don't give you anything. You know how hard life is just to get the coins you work for everyday and you wake up, write on a cardboard asking me for my coins that I bust my ass for, just so you could smoke it or drink it away. I'm the one that's body is breaking down everyday so I could have the little bit that I have. My back hurts, my knees hurts, my head hurts and I do it for the finer things in life. The next man is struggling too and they have the nerve to try to take the little that they got. *SMDH*

Thats what a productive human being does, no room for excuses and you negros out here robbing people for $5 instead of going to school and learn something
