A shocking video has surfaced showing a gang of girls attacking a woman who was sitting alone on a park bench in New York City.
It is not clear when the video, which appears to show an attack in Brooklyn's Prospect Park, was filmed but police are using it to try to identify the attackers.
Despite the attack taking place during the day, no one was seen coming to the victim's aid and a group of men standing nearby appeared to be encouraging the attack.

Attack: A woman sat on a Brooklyn bench was beaten by three young girls
Shocking: Police are trying to identify the victim and the attackers after footage was shared online
The footage, which appears to have been filmed on a cell phone before it was shared online, shows a girl approach the victim on a bench and start beating her about the head.
Two other girls join in, and appear to be slapping the woman about the face and upper body, before dragging her by the hair on to the ground.
The victim is seen curled up on the ground, as the girls continue to hit, kick and punch her.
One girl, wearing pink shorts and a white T-shirt, pulls the victim half off the ground by her hair, while another of the attackers kicks her between the shoulder blades.
A third woman, in dark shorts and a blue T-shirt, then kicks the victim in the face and delivers several punches.
Brutal: The victim is pulled to the ground and her attackers appear to kick her and stamp on her
Violent: One of the attackers, left, is seen pulling the victim up by her hair as another girl prepares to kick the woman between the shoulder blades
No help: Bystanders appeared to be yelling encouragement during the attack
Believing that her ordeal was finally over, the victim sits up, clutching her head, just as one of the girls kicks her square in the face.
The attackers then walk off leaving the woman sat on the ground.
Throughout the attack, a group of men circle the women yelling, jeering and appearing to encourage the girls carrying out the beating.
At one point, a man appears to be referring to the attackers as his 'young hitters'.
The attack has sickened the community, and the victim is being encouraged to come forward, Pix 11 reported.
Vicious: The woman tried to curl up on the ground while the girls appeared to kick and punch her
Ordeal: The victim sits up just as one of the girls appears to kick her in the jaw
On Friday, Tony Herbert of the National Action Network called for an end to the violence.
'We can't afford for this to happen in our community. What we are asking for is the victim, we are asking her to come forward because we need to get these people off the street. And get them the counseling or whatever it is they need. So they won't do this to somebody else.
'They thought it was fun to kick them literally in their face and laugh about it,' he said.
According to NBC New York Police are investigating the assault.

Thx... I'm sure you all would've done the same.
The problem is the wrong black youth are getting kill
Biggg maximum respect Mr. Incognito!!!
And we wonder why they call our black asses animals...because of s hit like this! I honestly don't know how I would react seeing this happen but I doubt if my conscience would allow me to sit and watch a woman, young girl get beat down like that by a group of girls....what happened to a fair one on one?
The sad things about this is that if she had pulled out a knife or pistol and let it rip killing all these girls, you can rest assured that the DA would want to press charges to lost her away in prison for defending herself wasting tax payers money on a damn trail.
Man, this madness is happening way way too often. These chics only respond to one thing, and it aint pleasant.
Years ago I, on the C-Train heading into Brooklyn I witnessed a similar altercation. Luckily for the girl that was about to be attacked the outcome was much much different. Why?? Because, I put an end to that $hit real quick. As a previous person stated, they won't try that b/s wid a real dude. Even if he was suited up (Wall Street style) like me that day.
When things like this go down, often it's surreal - you can't believe what's up? By the time it hits you, a combination of rage and concern runs down your spine. On that fateful day the unlucky girl was a little extremely light-skin pretty Latino girl, who was quietly riding alone. Probably Puerto Rican, barely 5 ft tall, and less than 100lbs soaking wet. She was the perfect vic for 6-7 thuglettes, who persistently, verbally & physically harassing the little girl.
With the pride of a true New York Puerto Rican - the "Nuyorican" in her was strong though, and she courageously let her attackers know she wasn't a punk. Maybe she wasn't, but her extra-red complexion, and the tears under your glasses told a different story. She was red with fear, and there was NO one willing to help her... or so she thought.
Surprisingly, just about the entire (subway) car watched as this little girl was on the verge of getting smashed by a gang of thugs. It became obvious, someone had to do something - problem was I wasn't dressed the part. My $900 Barney's suit and Ferragamo shoes just wasn't going to let this mele end with words - not unless I switched outta my professional disposition.
What many folks don't realize is just because a brother or sister can hold it down in the board room, doesn't mean they can't also get down in the "lowdown". No doubt that was the prevailing thought on this C-train.
Of course, I wasn't about to fight no girls, but I also wasn't about to let an innocent girl get whooped or die in fear. Without a thought, I stepped in the middle of the fracas, and let it be known to ringleaders. "Aint nobody fcuking with this girl, unless they wanna fcuk with me".
No doubt, the intensity of my words, and look on my face was likely a shock to everyone in the car. However, these chics were from the hood and words could only accomplish so much. I would have to "show & prove". Besides the biggest perp felt her equal size, and my lack of being an imposing figure was enough for her to press me - unfortunately for her, my suit was deceiving - she just didn't know what was lurking beneath the threads. It was a solid 5-11-ish frame that could bench press over 300lbs (back then). All it took was a slight flick of a wrist, a mere "jam", and home girl's big ass went flying, and tumbled into the rear subway door with such a force her ghetto ass had never felt. All of a sudden they now wanted to be girls, and even a couple of stupid-asz bros were now up and sympathetic to their cause. Well as they say in Poker, I was "all in". Took off my tie, undid a few buttons - "Don't let the suit fool you n****$, these bitche$ don't have to be the only ones to pay".
That was about all the support those thuglettes got. They huffed, and puffed, and shut the fcuk up.... As I strolled off the train, a strange smile was on my face. The little Puerto Rican girl was long gone. During the whole madness, she had smartly slipped away - and I had avoided the guilt of watching an innocent person get hurt.
The morale of this long, boring story is that, these situations are often very complex, and events unfold quickly. Folks who get involve, do it as a reflex reaction or out of complete and utter fury. You react first, then think about it later. Unfortunately, as it did with me, other $hit can go down that can turn a hero into a martyr . Then again, I would do it all over if I had to. The animalistic behavior of girls today have ruined the respect folks once had for little ladies, and although i'm not proud of sorta "hitting" a girl, they lost that privilege when they crossed the line of being bat-$hit evil. Hope others will do the same.
