“Sadly, after nearly five years of marriage, Megan and I are filing for divorce. This is a challenging time for all involved, so I ask that you please respect our privacy,” Morgan tells PEOPLE in a statement released through his rep.
“We can confirm that Megan filed for divorce yesterday,” a rep for Wollover says in a statement. “This is a private matter for the family. Megan’s primary focus remains the best interest of the parties’ daughter. She asks that the family’s privacy be respected during this difficult time.”
Morgan, 51, and Wollover, 33, share one daughter: 7-year-old Maven Sonae.
The comedian and his ex-wife Sabina Morgan, also share adult sons Gitrid, 34, Malcom, 32, and 28-year-old Tracy Jr.
Morgan and Wollover later tied the knot in August 2015, not long after he recovered from a near-fatal car crash.
In June 2019, Morgan recalled the incident on its five-year anniversary and thanked Wollver for supporting him.
“There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t miss my friend Jimmy Mac, who sadly lost his life that night. I love you Jimmy. I thank GOD for my family,” Morgan wrote. “I am eternally grateful for the love and support they give me. My wife, daughter, sons, and friends are what got me back on my feet. I live every day trying to do right by them and the most of this second chance.”
Morgan previously said that planning the wedding to Wollover played a huge role in his recovery process.
“I don’t want to walk my wife down the aisle with a cane or in a wheelchair,” he told PEOPLE in June 2015. “So I had to go hard with the therapy. I had to get better. There was no ifs, ands or buts about it.”
“Happiness is simply having something to look forward to,” he added at the time. “I look forward to being married, and I’m really happy.”
