Toots cancels tour {VIDEOS} Toots Hibbert Injured By Bottle Thrown During Concert
The reggae pioneer filed the lawsuit last year against Venture Richmond, the organizers of the Dominion Riverrock festival, a reggae indoor concert in Richmond Virginia.
During a performance at the venue in 2013, the 73-year-old reggae star was hit in his head with a vodka bottle thrown by a drunk fan. Toots ended his performance prematurely and seek medical treatment where he received several stitches for a wound in his head.
Lawyers representing both Toots and Venture Richmond asked a judge to dismiss the lawsuit after the two parties reached an out of court settlement. The reggae singer will also be going back on tour and will be performing at the same venue.
The man who threw the bottle, William Connor Lewis, served six months in jail for the incident.
WITH five shows to complete his American acoustic tour, frontman Toots Hibbert and his Maytals band have postponed the remaining concerts.
The 68-year-old entertainer is arriving in the island today to seek additional medical treatment after being struck on the forehead by a bottle thrown by a drunken fan two Saturdays ago while he was performing at the Dominion Riverrock Festival in Virginia.
Dates affected are: Stone Mountain Arts Centre in Maine on May 27; the Rams Head On Stage Annapolis, Maryland on May 29; The State Theatre in Ithaca in New York on May 30; South Orange Performing Arts Centre in New Jersey on May 31; and Infinity Hall in Connecticut on June 1.
The tour began on May 20 in Annapolis, Maryland.
Andrea Davis, publicist for Toots and the Maytals, said the artiste would be undergoing several tests.
"Toots regrets having to disappoint any of his fans but this is a serious head injury. He returns home to attend to his medical issues. In that, Toots is still undergoing tests and treatment. No definite date for the continuation of touring can be determined as of today," Davis said in a release.
She said the tour would resume once the singer was given the green light from his doctors.
Hibbert had previously received several stitches at the VCU Medical Centre in the United States after the incident while the drunken fan was arrested and charged by police.
Toots and The Maytals are known for classic songs such as 54-46, Monkey Man and Bam Bam. They have been one of the top touring reggae acts for over a decade.
The group won a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2005 with True Love.
The lead singer of Toots and the Maytals was injured on Saturday night by a bottle thrown at the stage during a concert in Virginia. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that Frederick "Toots" Hibbert was struck in the forehead and treated at a hospital for the resulting cut.
Toots and the Maytals were performing at the Dominion Riverrock Outdoor Sports and Music Festival when a glass vodka bottle was launched from the crowd. The reggae veterans' set was brought to an early end, and a 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault and public intoxication, according to Richmond police. An executive with Venture Richmond, the company that produces the three-day festival, said that the bottle used appears to have been stolen from the venue's bar area.
Another festival manager said that 67-year-old Hibbert remained in good spirits after leaving the hospital that night. "He was lucid. He was laughing. He was tired obviously. He had had a very long day," Venture Richmond's Stephen Lecky said. "He was one of the nicest men I ever met."

Sue him for pain and suffering. That way, if he still refuses to conduct himself like a wonderful human being, you can get a sheriff and go collect on any monies awarded you. File charges, he will hate the court system so much he and others will think again, before trying something that in the future.
Think logically, accept the truth, and, live accordingly.
