Tighter CURFEW HOURS for Jamaica Starting August 11th… “No Events… No Parties”

According to PM Holness, with regards to Covid-19, Jamaica is currently in the “Exponential increase zone” caused by “a lot of movement” by infected persons. The Office of the Prime Minister held a Press Conference moments ago and in the broadcast, the PM detailed that the island is currently going through another “Spike” and to contain the virus, the curfew measures will continue to tighten in the coming weeks.

As a result of the increased rates, several measures will be put in place, including the shipments of new vaccines and the fighting of curfew hours. The island is expected to receive tens of thousands of AstraZeneca vaccines in coming weeks, “take the vaccine when the vaccine is available” urged minister Tufton.

While on the other hand, according to Mr Holness, the new curfew protocols under the Disaster Risk Management will be effective starting on Wednesday, August 11th and will run for three weeks, ending August 31st 2021.

On Mondays to Fridays, the new hours will be from 7 PM to 5 AM the following morning while on Saturdays the hours will be from 6 PM to 5 AM with a 2 PM to 5 AM schedule on Sundays.

“This is both a signal and opportunity”, He stated while explaining that the government has gradually reimplemented fewer movement hours as they were back in May. “Even tighter measure could come depending on the numbers we are seeing,” warns PM Holness.

For beaches, the Prime Minister said that the new opening times starting on August 11th will be between 6 AM and 4 PM from Monday to Saturday, and 6 AM to 1 PM on Sundays. The Beaches that are not under management or control should remain closed while rivers should obey the same times and open only for domestic uses.

Capacity limit is at 50 per cent of the venue size or in the case of small gatherings. 30 persons are allowed for funeral services and burials.

“No events… No parties” PM Holness reported that no permits will also be granted and that he had a sit down with the head of police recently to talk about enforcing the measures. “It’s not a time for the public to panic” outlines Holness.
