Drones, explosions, Skinner, World War II flashbacks, Morley cigarettes, they're all in the first two trailers for the X-Files revival, which returns to Fox on January 24th following a 13-year hiatus. The trailers, released during episodes of Gotham and Minority Report, offer a much more in-depth look at the world of the show than the first teaser trailer did. Mulder and Scully are back, baby, and so are some of the show's other characters, including that iconic "I Want To Believe" poster that may or may not have hung in my bedroom for over a decade.
Mulder on the other side of the hospital door sends CHILLS DOWN MY SPINE! I also love that in the intervening years, nobody has taken over their former X-Files office, it's just sitting down there as a really enormous broom closet. I bet Skinner uses it for his midday workouts. Looking buff, Mitch!
Obviously the new series will continue where the conspiracy investigation left off—that alien growl from the end of the teaser is so great—and Cigarette Smoking Man's voiceover—who was [spoiler alert] presumed dead—really drives that point home.
Most exciting perhaps, other than seeing Fox and Dana back together again of course, are the flashback scenes, which appear to be World War II-era. Is that the mystery man from the first trailer who tells Mulder he's close [to the truth]?
There are lots of questions to be answered—and likely more trailers in our future. Lucky NYC Comic-Con attendees will get a sneak peek at the first episode on October 10th, so perhaps a few more details will leak out. Until then, I'll be obsessively tracking the IMDB page—Lone Gunmen! Krycek! Morris F****** Fletcher!—and attempting to re-watch all the episodes before January.
