As if Vybz kartel name cannot be tarnished any further.
Scamming has find its way into the heart of Jamaican culture, dancehall.
Scam artists are targeting dancehall stars and Vybz Kartel name is at the center of the controversy.
Sources inside the Gaza camp are saying that an unknown scammer is impersonating Vybz Kartel and calling other artists requesting money to help with legal fees.
“Vybz Kartel did not call any artist requesting money for legal fees, so let me make this clear, someone is trying to scam these artists,” the source told us today.
“The police is aware of the scam and is investigating it, because an artist that I can’t name sent $50,000 to this person,” the source added.
“Vybz Kartel too proud to be begging other artists money, all his legal fees are taken care of by himself, so these people need to go look work do and come off a di man name,” the source continues.
Vybz Kartel, who has been behind bars since September 2011, returns to court on May 27. He is expected to begin trial on two murder charges.
In late 2011 the former Portmore Empire head, born Adidja Palmer, was arrested and charged with the murder of dancer Clive “Lizard” Williams and promoter/businessman Barrington “Bossie” Burton.
Last year Vybz Kartel and his protege Gaza Slim stirred up some controversy when they released a single titled “Reparation” where they praise scammers on the island.
Jamaican authorities moved swiftly to ban the song from all radio airplay.
