Rihanna In Barbados Free Land Controversy, what do you think?

Politicians in Barbados have been blasted after they gave Rihanna a free piece of land.

The 'Te Amo' singer - who was born on the island - was handed the real estate in the area of Apes Hill, by Minister of Housing and Lands Michael Lashley.

The gift was a thank-you to RiRi for drawing interest to the Caribbean island nation - but the gesture has angered other officials.

Government Minister Gline Clarke has now slammed the gift, as he doesn't think rich celebrities such as Rihanna should be awarded when other Barbadian residents live in poverty.

WENN quotes him as saying: "Why is the government paying millions of dollars for land for someone who's already making millions?"

This type of thing happens all the time, celebrities with millions getting all kinds of freebies. There are a few celebrities that give large amounts to charity, but it seems most just keep acumulating more and more, with little or no concern for their fans or people in general.
Maybe she'll donate it to the community, or build a school on it, which would make a nice reflection on her, but if she just keeps it, it should be viewed as a reflecton of the kind of person she really is.

I am in total agreement with Minister Gline Clarke. It is time that Political decisions are not made from the Croch but from the Head on Top. Did they (he) think that there was something more to be gained in return? If people are interested in Barbados because of Rihannas fame, they will continue to be so. It is sad that the Gift wasn't "consciously" refused, donated and/or sold, with the proceeds going to benefit poor people who deserve the Governments generosity more than the able rich. Any person with a conscience would agree. Any Official who could be so short sited should be removed from Office immediatley. Get wiped out by the people if you are not for the people!

This is also practiced in Jamaica, so what if she earns a piece of land. This is just a marketing strategy of getting rich people to buy land in the area. Leave the young lady alone, in my opinion she deserves is. You all should be proud of her. I am and I am Jamaican not Bajan. Grow up people.

She should use this blessing to bless someone else. She has more than enough money to buy land. She should give it away to someone who really needs it!

I agree. Rihanna can afford to buy her own land. Give her a key or a plaque or something less expensive. The gesture is enough. A give the money to those much less fortunate.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. A lot of countries gifts accomplishments to individuals as there countries pride, represented in the world.Grow up people.I'm sure RiRi has plans to give back to her country if she hasn't already.

Rihanna my dear, through a very close family friend, my family and I had the pleasure of meeting you at a birthday celebration and I believe I am comfortable in stating that in all fairness, now that you have seen how gracious your country has been in rewarding your accomplishments, and since some folks are up in arms about that which has been gifted to you, it is only fitting that you direct some US dollars to a well meaning project to benefit your fellow country men, women and children. What do you think? By the way, the article's point is well taken. :)
