Rihanna In Barbados Free Land Controversy, what do you think?

Politicians in Barbados have been blasted after they gave Rihanna a free piece of land.

The 'Te Amo' singer - who was born on the island - was handed the real estate in the area of Apes Hill, by Minister of Housing and Lands Michael Lashley.

The gift was a thank-you to RiRi for drawing interest to the Caribbean island nation - but the gesture has angered other officials.

Government Minister Gline Clarke has now slammed the gift, as he doesn't think rich celebrities such as Rihanna should be awarded when other Barbadian residents live in poverty.

WENN quotes him as saying: "Why is the government paying millions of dollars for land for someone who's already making millions?"

If she really wants to have her name be immortalized then I believe she should build homes, a school, or even a health clinic so that the people of her island can benefit form this gift as well. One thing I have learned in this life is to pay it forward, when you do this you are truly blessed..

would a town renamed in her honour evoke the same outcry? Poor people won't be able to afford the land even if it was donated. what would be a wonderful gesture is her building on the land something that will highlight her name even more, a school, or a foundation of some sort

Wait one second did I just hear right? "What does it matter if poor people cannot afford houses?" Are you kidding me? I'll take a step back for awhile and let someone else deal with you and your statement.....because if I say anything at this point in time Rhanna being rude to her government would be the last thng on your mind......Dj Simmy take up the gauntlet for me.

Well I don't agree. It would be unconscionable, and indeed VERY RUDE to insult your government by refusing or giving away a gift. The gift was not given because she is poor, so what does it matter if poor people cannot afford houses? She should NOT donate it to the poor, no one who is poor can afford the property taxes in Apes Hill.

By the way, Gline Clarke is not a minister, he is an opposition MP.

Agree 100% with the MP, come on times are hard a lot of people suffering, we should be looking to help those less fortunate... On the other hand well Riri is one of us and big-up to her, these caribbean politicians are something else so !!!!!!
