Residents of the Hidden Hills community in Los Angeles have launched a petition to have Trinidadian-American rapper Nicki Minaj and her family removed from the neighbourhood due to her husband Kenneth Petty’s status as a sex offender.
Petty, whom Minaj married in 2019, was convicted for the attempted rape of a 16-year-old girl in 1995 and later served seven years in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree manslaughter for the death of Lamont Robinson in 2002.
Petty failed to register as a sex offender in California and was arrested, then sentenced to serve three years of probation, one year of home detention, and pay a fine of $55,000, though the prosecution desired jail time.
Minaj and Petty purchased their $19.5 million mansion in Hidden Hills in December 2022, and following the couple’s pricey purchase, a number of their neighbours are now demanding that they leave.
The petition, which was started by Beverly Bardan, was created soon after Minaj and Petty’s purchase. But the “SAY NO TO SEX OFFENDERS IN HIDDEN HILLS” petition has been rapidly gaining traction, with over 500 people signing this week.
The petition noted not only Petty’s attempted rape conviction but his manslaughter charge as well. Petty’s failure to register as a sex offender in the state was highlighted, and it was further expressed that he was likely to commit sexual assault in the future.
Additionally, it was stated that Minaj and Petty’s presence in the community would result in the devaluation of the resident’s homes in the area due to safety concerns and that women and children would become targets.
