Police have launched a manhunt for a politician after several persons reported giving money to his company for them to gain visas and overseas employment.

The politician, who is slated to contest the next General Election for the People's National Party, is being sought after his company failed to deliver on its agreements.

Information reaching THE STAR is that the police have unsuccessfully tried contacting the politician several times and have even spoken with his attorney but cannot find him.

The police told THE STAR that the company, which is registered with the Ministry of Labour, have angered many people who were promised visas, jobs and work permits abroad.

Some of the disgruntled complainants with whom THE STAR spoke said they have asked that their money be returned but were told they have to wait four to six weeks as that is what is stated on the company's contract.

Ann-Marie Davis, a nurse, said "I can't believe that these people do business like this. They take your money and say they are going to make this happen but when you call them, they always say come back next time, the boss is not here now or they forgot the receipt book or some excuse."

She further said, "When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I asked him why I couldn't get back my money and him tell me some bad word and tell me where fi put things in places I never dreamed of. I couldn't believe it."

One woman told THE STAR she forked out $77,000 to the company while another said she handed them US$2,000. They say they are yet to get any positive word from the business.

Another complainant Gayle Peterson* said "I'm a hardworking woman and I need to get my money back. I have a son and I thought this was something legit, mi nah mek my money go to waste."

Joseph Valentine* said "Well honestly, when I paid the money I was given the impression that things would have moved much faster, I registered since last year and all now I can't be placed on the list for confirmation to get the supposed visa. This is foolishness and now they are telling me to wait till December, it can't work."

The Star also attempted to get in touch with the politician but this also proved futile and when the company was contacted the phones went unanswered. The company has a Facebook page showcasing what it is about, however, the link for the website is not functional.

@Jason Taylor and TIG, he must have paid the Star not to publish his name. I have never seen such poor reporting of the news, especially if it involves fraud and a corrupted politician.

If you are going to publish sutch a news, do the responsible thing and release the person's name after all what you would be doing is protecting the public, remember you say he will be running for public office, if you are a journalist you have accepted the responsibility to the public you serve, this is one politician that J amaica does not need at all, so release his or her name, so he can be housted.
