Police have arrested a man for having sex with another male on the eastern Caribbean island of Grenada, where a law against homosexual acts remains on the books but is rarely enforced.
A 41-year-old man was charged with having sex with an unidentified 17-year-old man, Grenada’s director of public prosecution, Christopher Nelson, said Wednesday.
The age of sexual consent in Grenada is 16 but while the sex in question was consensual, local law prohibits sodomy under the charge of “unnatural connection.”
Grenada is one of several Caribbean nations that has laws banning sex between men. The penalty in most islands, including Grenada, is up to 10 years in prison, although Barbados and Guyana have life imprisonment, according to a 2010 United Nations report.
Many islands remain socially conservative, with Jamaica considered one of the most hostile islands toward homosexuals. A gay right activist was killed there last year, and three gay men were attacked and beaten in St. Lucia in March. Gay cruises to the region also continue to draw protesters.
In Grenada, gays are discriminated against and find it hard to find employment and housing, said Nigel Mathlin, president of GrenCHAP, a local nonprofit organization that represents marginalized groups.
“The government, they are very much aware of the changes that need to be made, of bringing our laws into line with international human rights principles,” Mathlin said.

people can do as they wish, me personlly i feel that the man on man and woman on woman thing is sick to a certain extent, though being raised as a spiritual person and not so much with religon i know that two souls can reincarnate one with feminine energy wich most of the times return within a females body and the other being masculine energy returning in a males body but sometimes the spirit (in a nut shell) rushes back to earth returning into a males body being feminine energy, then on the next note some of these people are just dark savage souls out for self pleasure
Teach dem sista Janice, I'm admiring your logical, intelligent and conscious imparting of knowledge and truths. I've been too busy to partake of these discussions but I'm keeping abreast from time to time.
Grace & peace to you too.@krunchone..... As I understand, Jesus was very pugnacious about expelling the "legalism" employed in the "old testament" ..... so much so that when he made the ultimate sacrifice, it atoned for all of our sins.
In 1 Corinthians 10:23, it says, (KJV) "All things are lawful for me, but not everything is expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not". (NIV) "Everything is permissable, but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissable, but not everything is constructive". This to me speaks to the concept of "personal responsibility". We each are ultimately responsible for the decisions we make for our lives. In the absence of the person of Christ, he has left "The Holy Spirit" to guide us in the way in which we should go. That is the ultimate "guide" for the believer and not anyone else's "perception" or "interpretation" of God's word.
I have to say I respect your fervent expression of faith and admire your strength of conviction....something much needed to keep us grounded and protected in a world full of distraction and instability. Stay your course and continue to raise the beautiful family God has Blessed you with. Grace and Peace my brother
@ krunchone
exodus 31:14, 35:2 and Numbers 15:32-36 says that the same punishments (i.e. death, being cut away, stoned etc) should be given to those who work on the sabbath too. isnt it funny how we are willing to be progressive on some things but not others?
