Jose Rodriguez, 20, was gunned down near a bodega on Monday night and died minutes later, authorities said.
ORANGE — A 20-year-old man was shot and killed Monday night near a bodega, authorities said.
Jose Rodriguez was shot on the 600-block of Freeman Street around 7:30 p.m., said Anthony Ambrose, the chief of detectives for the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Rodriguez was pronounced dead at 8 p.m., at University Hospital in Newark, the chief added.
The shooting location was near a bodega on the street, which forms the border with West Orange, Ambrose said.
The Essex County Homicide and Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the death this morning, Ambrose said. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the confidential hotline at (877) 847-7432.
Rodriguez’s death is the sixth homicide in Orange this year.
