The Immigration Task Force has arrested one of Canada Border Services Agency's (CBSA) "Most Wanted" – a Guyanese man who’d been convicted of violent crimes and who authorities had been trying to get out of the country.
Shameer Allie, 36, was arrested yesterday morning in the Toronto area after officials acted on a tip from the agency’s Most Wanted website.
Allie has several criminal convictions in Canada including violence and weapons related offences. He was among the CBSA’s recently released list of names and photos of foreign fugitives hiding in Canada and a Canada-wide warrant had been out for his arrest.
“Allie is under CBSA custody. The CBSA has initiated removal proceedings,” a statement from the agency said.
The Immigration Task Force which nabbed Allie is a joint forces unit which includes members from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Canada Border Services Agency and Provincial ROPE squad.
The team works closely with other police departments and partner agencies to apprehend high-risk migrant fugitives through teamwork and the effective use of intelligence.
