The body of Ronald Wayne White was found inside his Dallas apartment last week after management at the DeSoto Town Center Complex noticed that he had not been using water. They subsequently alerted police who went on to make the grisly discovery.
'What I can tell you is it is very clear when officers entered [White's apartment] that he had been there for a while,' a detective with the DeSoto Police Department told WFAA on Thursday.
White's rent was automatically withdrawn every month from his bank account and payments continued to go through to the landlord.
Investigators now believe he passed away back in 2016 at the age of 51. They do not suspect foul play.
Ronald Wayne White was found dead inside his Dallas apartment last week. Investigators believed he passed away in 2016 and that his remains lay undiscovered for three years
Police discovered medications inside his apartment dated to that year, and 2016 was also the same year that White last contacted his mother.
His distraught mother Doris Stevens, who lives in New York state, told WFAA that she used to speak to her son at least twice a month before his phone calls stopped coming.
'He would call me from Egypt. He would call me from the Philippines. He would call me right from Dallas,' she explained.
Stevens says she asked multiple police departments to help track down her son, but they could not pursue a missing persons case as White was known to travel frequently for work.

According to WFAA, officers may have called to a house previously listed as being rented by White. However they found nothing to tie him to the residence.
Elderly Stevens says she did not have enough money to hire a private investigator to help track the whereabouts of her son.
'All them days, holidays, I just suffered. Because nobody wanted to help find him,' Stevens stated.
White reportedly divorced around 20 years ago, and he had adult children. They say they were unaware that he was residing at the DeSoto address.
In addition to his medications from 2016, police also discovered White's pick-up truck in the garage covered in dust.
Tests are now being performed to see whether a cause of death can be determined.
