Many Africans don’t have water, so why are black people doing the Ice Bucket Challenge?

Screen Shot 2014-08-27 at 10.58.47 PM

Andre Hatchett is into supporting black-owned businesses.  He’s the founder of BuyBlackNYC.com and has been a leading advocate for black wealth building and finding businesses owned by people of color.  He’s also got a lot of energy and seems to apply it to all the right things.

Hatchett is concerned about the recent spike in African Americans who are doing the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, when the disease impacts mostly white men.  Not to say that the lives of these white men don’t matter, but black men are dying faster than anyone, and black women need our help just as much.

Another concern that Andre has is that while we are throwing water over our heads for fun, there are 800 million people around the globe (many of them Africans) who don’t have access to clean water.  When Matt Damon did the Ice Bucket challenge with toilet water, he did so to bring awareness to all of those people who are dying because they can’t get clean water.  In fact, Damon says that the water in his toilet is cleaner than the drinking water that most people get to use around the world for their families.

Andre is supporting another option for African Americans, called The Black Business Challenge. Andre says that if African Americans are to get behind a challenge, it should be one that focuses on solving some of the critical problems that exist within our community.

So, for 30 days, Andre is asking that all of those who support the challenge go into a black-owned business and take a camera phone video for at least one minute. I hope others will support his challenge, since we need to build, invest in and support black-owned businesses. Check it out.

@ Lucky Hall lets be honest i talk about that all the time i came from the project my family got us out and taught us to hustle the system, but i always say im mad at the people i came up with who refuses to get out i wont even go visit them that is every where it has always been a small portion that got out and as for the food unless i purchase it i will not eat from no one especially women find one caribbean woman i dated who will tell you i ever ate from them unless we lived together that will not happen, i believe in paying for my food anything happen i have the right for what ever action im in love with my family cooking so im never hungry for others food and even the dumb one knows that we paved the way its the hate they must act like they are better to feel good about them selves until they meet a brother like me who spit at them, and that is another reason why i am so turn off to even go on a vacation in any of those island im not impress i dont need to meet no more than those people i meet her nor see their places i have no need for that, i appreciate my culture so much which is the reason why i go hard at my own kind all the time why destroy something so beautiful, i dont care what any one says without black cultures what do they have

@Lucky Hall at lucky dont even mention the Project if you say youve been for so long it is a signature of living for many of us and also a way out to get up for some now the projects is taking over by foreigners go to farackaway east ny brownsville nothing but jamaicans and guyanese, but yet we are bad and forget welfare they on it now, i know young dudes who are on welfare who refuse to work nor go to school but talking with that loud accent like they were in their backyard talk to them ask them why they are so lazy like i said staying where you are will not help or your past experience im talking about things that i see now you have to come out and do the survey your self dont take my words for it nor defend it

@Lucky Hall the north was a save haven for colored people but if we didnt fight and struggle in south it would not be safe for no one, and lets be clear whether its boston, long island brooklyn bronx majority of those folks work multiple jobs its just a few who are professionals and yes i know a few who do but the majority lets be real about that i can do a survey in broon alone ill find more of them with low wages and multiple jobs than professionals and yes we will continue to be nasty because i know majority of those people think down on us people from the caribbean are like the white folks i call them the black racists but it is really self hate because they are the first to open their mouths and talk that african s*** but soon they get mad at someone or time gets hard they want to call names or lash and thats why i would never trust anyone from the island i see them just like a white person and this is the real me, i cannot trust people that carries hate in their hearts against me and think they are better i dont care how good they are its a chance i will not take, i can be friend with any one not to the level of trust im sorry that i cannot afford, i dont remember one carribean friend that i ever ate at their house unless it was a party where every one is participating and i fix my own plate other than im not that hungry

@Lucky Halli understand what you are saying no one will be perfect, how ever even in person majority of the people from the island have that mentality and thats niggers for you, i always ask those people if they feel like that just sit down and ask them selves what if there were no blacks in America before they started coming here for opportunity, how would their lives be in here, how easy would it be, we are the one that marched, we are the one who suffer and get justice so every one else can free load the only time many of those people march is laborday on the parkway lets be f****** honest and many people know when it comes to s*** like this i will not be nice nor apologize and will stand my ground to defend mine, so i will say to everyone who feels like that why come here if they are so much better, why work 4 jobs and still struggle like their lives will never get no where the mexican are doing better than most of those people who sounds like that some of them still living in rooms while driving a bmw with a note they will never finish paying for, and this is why every day i wake up and make sure i have spit on you money for white or blacks any one who thinks they are better make me feel like spit on them because my life is too good

@ Lucky Hall i just cannot understand how many of those niggers who come from those poor countries hate us so much yet they are riding our back bone to make it in America as soon as they open their mouths they have to criticize but they have nothing to say to the white men just because he gave them 3 minimum wage jobs, if they have a problem why come here stay the f*** where they come from

The earth is mostly water. The cost to bottle and ship water to Africa is prohibitive. Meaning ridiculously expensive. Aside from that, Africa has an abundance of wealth. Not too long ago, on this very same site, someone posted a list of the world's richest people, which included a few Africans.
What this dude needs to do is protest against African leaders that waste their country's money and resources on nonsense instead of building schools and proper water systems... But I doubt he'll do that.
My opinion, take the mic from this fool.
