Former New York Giants great Lawrence Taylor was arrested after allegedly raping and beating a teenage girl in a New York hotel Thursday...
Taylor, 51, was taken into custody by the Town of Ramapo police after being accused of raping someone in the Holiday Inn Holidome Hotel in Suffern.
Details surrounding the rape have not yet been released other than the location and that it occurred early this morning. Charges against the Hall of Fame linebacker will be filed once police complete their investigation.
A news conference is expected later Thursday afternoon where police will reveal more details. Taylor is expected to be charged with third-degree rape.
It is believed that a 15-year-old girl complained to the police after she said that Taylor hit her, meaning assault charges could be coming also.
When police investigated the teen's claims and saw Taylor in the hotel, he was arrested overnight.
Taylor's lawyer is former Rockland County District Attorney Kenneth Gribetz.
The Journal News said the teen apparently was a runaway from New York City controlled by a pimp.
Taylor, affectionately known by his fans as "L.T.," spent his entire 13-year career with the Giants and is considered one of the greatest defensive players in NFL history. He was part of the Giants' vaunted "Big Blue Wrecking Crew," leading the team to Super Bowl victories in 1987 and 1991.
He was named Defensive Player of the Year three times and won the Most Valuable Player award in 1986.
Taylor recorded 132.5 sacks in his career, which doesn't included the 9.5 sacks in 1981 when the statistic wasn't official.
He was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1999.
His personal life has been marred by trouble before. He's admitted to using cocaine during his NFL career, and was suspended several times by the league for failing drug tests.
In 2001, Taylor was convicted of possessing drug paraphernalia in New Jersey. The conviction stemmed from the September 1998 discovery in a hotel room of a butane torch and other materials commonly used to smoke crack.
In 1996 and 1997, he was arrested in South Carolina and Florida on drug charges. In those cases, he either admitted his guilt or agreed to enter a pretrial intervention program.
In 2000, he drew five years of federal probation for filing false tax returns and for tax evasion.
Taylor said he cleaned his act up and was sober in 1998. He later starred in the feature film "Any Given Sunday" in 1999 as "Luther 'Shark' Lavay," and has worked as a color commentator over the years as well.
Last November, Taylor was charged with leaving the scene of an accident near Miami.
Police listed Taylor as a resident of Pembroke Pines, Fla.
