Grammy-nominated reggae singer Judy Mowatt is reported in a recent interview with Britain's The Voice newspaper posted online on Tuesday, that she believes that if reggae legend Bob Marley was alive today, he would have converted to Christianity, just like she has been.
Now a devoted Christian, Mowatt was part of the reggae group, The I-Three, which rose to fame as a member of Marley's backing group. She was a Rastafarian for 22 years before making the transition.
In the interview, Mowatt said that a conversation she had with Marley's widow Rita, led her to believe that the late singer may have been converting to Christianity before his death.
"I think Bob Marley would be at the same place (as me)," she said. "I say this because I remember when he was in his transition (when he was leaving this Earth), he was in such excruciating pain. I remember his wife telling me that she went to the hospital and he (Marley) said, 'Jesus, take me.' At the time, I wondered: 'What is the meaning of that?' I didn't mention to Rita that I was curious, but I knew I would get the answer someday."
Mowatt continued: "Years later, a friend of mine, Bunny Brown from The Chosen Few (reggae/soul vocal group), said to me that his sister was a nurse at the hospital where Bob was and he told me that his sister had led him (Marley) to the Lord. She told him about Jesus and she led him to the Lord. So when Rita heard him say, 'Jesus, take me', it made sense. You cannot call on the name of Jesus without knowing Him."
When asked if she had ever shared her thoughts with Rita (who was also a member of The I-Threes, along with singer Marcia Griffiths), Mowatt said she used to remind her (Rita) of their conversation when she (Rita) mentioned that Marley had been calling on the name of Jesus before he died.
"I think I've reminded her of that [conversation we had] and she said she didn't remember saying it. But that is something that I will never forget. Sometimes, people might say something to you, but they say it in passing, not realising the impact of what they're saying is having on you."
Following her conversion, Mowatt, who earned a Grammy nomination for her 1985 solo album, Working Wonders, took a break from the music industry so she could become a more devoted Christian. Still committed to the faith, serving as the worship leader at her church, Mowatt recently returned to the music scene. She will embark on a UK tour this week alongside her former I-Threes group member Marcia Griffiths and fellow reggae stars Bob Andy, Richie Spice and Tanya. Stephens.

@ Ms Money World, I stand corrected I just read the entire post, God bless you.
@AfricanGoddess, you may give up on yourself but I will never give up on you. If we never meet on this earth, I plan to see you in Heaven. Don't fight His Spirit.
"Africa today still struggles because of unrepentant behaviour ."
Urr,seriously? It have nothing to do with colonization huh or the continuation of outsiders disorder going on today? Oh boy!
That will never happen in any of my lifetime...free spirits, don't engage in re lie gion!@ CALEE
@ Ms. Money World. You said Christianity was first considered a white puritan religion, no Christianity was first black Jesus (Yeshua) and his disciples were black. Even apostle Paul was black; he was confused for an Egyptian. (Acts 21:37,38). Just because somebody (Europeans) steals something from you, don’t mean is theirs.’ Now with that said, if you are a true Christian, color, race, nationality and gender (Galatians 3:28) is irrelevant, that’s the beauty of Christianity, we are all one at the feet of Yeshua. And the bottom-line is the great Bob Marley is gone, his decision before he died has been sealed for all eternity. My concern is for all my Caribbean Fever folks is to get to know Jesus (Yeshua) as their personal Lord and Saviour. I must admit we make Christianity so difficult sometimes, but is simple, just say Lord Jesus I accept you as Lord and Saviour, forgive me of all my sins, and renew a right spirit within me. Period, is you said that prayer and belief you been born again, simple find a Bible believing church, or start a group in your home just studying the Bible, and the Holy Spirit will guide you into all truth. I pray for that day, that even my beautiful @African Goddess will once again renew a relationship with Him (Yeshua). Peace.
That would never happen, Judy knock her head and bow to the white-man religion of christiandom of eurocentric, babylonism which was used to enslave black-people just like Islam which enslaved black-people, those two religion oppressed, killed and plunder black-people. My people turn you away from these religious dogma that don't serve our purpose.
Obviously Judy Mowatt is confused and has fallen prey to the Eurocentric view of the unknown, invisible GOD...we don't pretend to know who she now thinks is the CHRIST...but ask yourself this: is and or was CHRIST a Christian or a Jew? I tell you, RASTAFARIANS are not only "Christians" but we are also "Jews" as well as "Jehovah's witnesses." Simply put, RAS TAFARI, meaning, "Prince who ought to feared or Without fear" is the "new name" of the CHRIST, which is to say, the MESSIAH. As far as RASTAFARIANS are concerned, being the Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah, the Root and the Offspring of David, of whom we were sent to preach and teach unto you even up to his day, HAILE SELAHSIE I, meaning, "FIRST POWER Of The HOLY TRINITY", that is, "GOD The FATHER, SON, and The HOLY SPIRIT", is CHRIST in HIS Kingly character and as HIS name suggest, the similitude of the ALMIGHTY, which is, which was, and which is to come...the Bible say so, Babylon newspaper say so, and I and I the children say so, to paraphrase "Berhane Selahsie" Bob Marley himself...JAH RAS TAFARI LIVE CONTINUALLY!!!
