Jamaican Law Enforcement Clamping Down On Street Dances. Do you think this will be bad for Jamaican dancehall culture?

Street Dance passa passa

Street dances have long been a staple of dancehall and Jamaican culture, but this may soon be a thing of the past.

According to reports, Jamaica’s Police Commissioner, Owen Ellington, has instructed law enforcement officials to clamp down on street dances that breached the Noise Abatement Act.

Ellington has ordered his senior officers to refuse street dance permits for events he deemed will inconvenient motorists and be a nuisance to households.

The Noise Abatement Act prevent promoters from hosting street dance beyond 2 a.m. and without police permit.

Without this permit street dance promoters could face serious fines.

Do you think clamping down on street dances will be bad for Jamaican dancehall culture?

I'm here living in Kuwait and I know some people can not believe there are Jamaicans living in Kuwait but I'm speaking about Kuwait because there are some laws here that I wish my Jamaican Island had. One law is, any foreigner who wishes to open a business here must have a Kuwaiti citizen to sponsor your business and it must be split 51/49 as far as percentage wise. Meaning the Kuwaiti citizen must own 51% of your business. This would put money in the hands of the citizen of Kuwait without him/her lifting a finger to do anything. Imagine if we had this law in Jamaica? How sweet that would be and poor people would be better off. This would cut down on crime and most would not have to look to criminal acts to make a living.

Now concerning the dance in the streets, some things should be left for the bedroom or in the privacy of your home, but I rather for children to see sexual acts in the streets than criminals shooting, robbing and killing people and one have to run for his/her life to feel safe.

Much more crucial things going on in the country for the government to be more concern about than people dancing in the streets. We have people who are starving and can't afford to buy food or pay rent, crime rate is growing every day and they have the nerve to waste time on worrying about dancing in the streets. But a wat kind of government wi ave suh? Suh yuh mean sey dancing in the street is more important than crime in Jamaica? Kiss mi nek bak!!!

With all the Corruption, Poverty, & Crime going on in JA it is A SHAME to see that clamping down on street dancing is law enforcements first priority. Let the people enjoy their life & go fight crime!

WOW MI CYAAH BELIEVE YOU PEOPLE WHO ARE SAYING THAT THESE DANCE IS JUSS SLACKNESS AND SHOULD HAVE SHUT DOWN LONG AGO. YOU OBVIOUSLY ARE THE TYPE OF PERSON WHO SPEAKS BEFORE CONSIDERING THE REPERCUSSIONS OF YOUR ACTIONS AND HOW IT MAY AFFECT OTHER PEOPLE. IT IS VERY DISTURBING BECAUSE THIS IS SUBJECT MATTER THAT INVOLVES PEOPLES FREEDOM AND NOONE HAS THE RIGHT TO DENY PEOPLE OF THEIR RIGHT TO DO WHAT THEY WISH. IF IT WAS SOMETHING THAT WOULD AFFECT YOUR ABILITY TO DO SOMETHING THAT YOU PERSONALLY ENJOY DOING OR MAYBE SOMETHING THAT YOU NEED, THEN YOU WOULDNT BE SO QUICK TO SAY SHUT IT DOWN OR CONTROL THIS OR CONTROL THAT. YOU SHOULD BE MORE SENSITIVE TO OTHER PEOPLES RIGHTS BECAUSE YOU WOULDNT WANT ANYBODY TO TAKE AWAY YOURS. I MEAN DAMN DONT U THINK PEOPLE IN JAMAICA HAVE ENOUGH PROBLEMS? COLLEGE GRADUATES HAVING TO GO TO FOREIGN COUNTRIES JUST TO FIND JOBS, THE LACK OF GAINFUL EMPLOYMENT PERIOD, ALL THE CORRUPTION IN THE GOVT AND POLICE FORCE….. I SWEAR…. WHEN ARE WE AS A PEOPLE GOING TO WAKE UP AND UNITE AS A WHOLE AND STOP ALL THIS PETTY BICKERING OVER THESE SMALL ISSUES AND UNITE TOGETHER AS A HUMAN RACE BEFORE THESE BABYLON BWOY DEM TEK WEH EVERY BLOODCLAAT TING WE HOLD DEAR… EVERY DAY THEY ARE VIOLATING OUR RIGHTS TO LIVE AND PROSPER AND BE HAPPY!!! WAKE UP PEOPLE WAKE UP PLEASE .
