Jah Cure Arrested Hours Before Trinidad Concert at the Hyatt Regency Hotel

Jamaican reggae singer Jah Cure was arrested on Saturday night at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Port of Spain hours before his scheduled performance in south Trinidad but was later released.

Eye witnesses said armed police officers arrived at the hotel just before 7pm on Saturday night and, after chatting with hotel security officials for about 15 minutes they entered the hotel.

Jah Cure, aka Siccature Alcock, Jamaican reggae singer we know was arrested for failure to pay a local business man money owed in the amount of US$ 19,993. The court order was issued by Justice Sebastian Ventor. Jah Cure was recently released from prison in Jamaica after serving time for rape.
He was arrested around 7:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad Hotel, located at 1 Wrightson Road, Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. Jah Cure was due to perform at a concert in San Fernando last night. Jah Cure would only have been able to perform at the event if he was able to pay the money in cash or sign a security bond for the amount owed. Jah Cure was recently released from jail in Jamaica after serving nine years for rape.

It is unclear who the local business man is, and why Jah Cure would be in a position to owe the business man such a large amount of money. Eye witnesses said that armed police officers arrived at the hotel just before 7 p.m. on Saturday night. After chatting with hotel security officials for about 15 minutes they entered the hotel.

Approximately 20 minutes later the singer was seen being escorted out of a side door at the hotel by about 3 officers. Jah Cure reportedly shouted claims of police victimization as he was being escorted to the van in which the officers had arrived.

After being held at the police headquarters on St. Vincent Street in Port of Spain for almost 3 hours, however, Jah Cure was released from custody and dropped by the Boom Champions studios. Jah Cure seemed very reluctant to discuss the arrest incident and would only say that he was gearing up to perform at the “It’s Jah Cure Again“ concert for his fans.

The singer claimed the arrest incident was an attempt to sabotage the show but added that he was not going to let that negatively affect what he is going to bring to the audience.

Jah Cure was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment on April 26, 1999, in Jamaica, for two counts of rape, robbery with aggravation, and illegal possession of firearm, all arising from the same incident. He received this sentence at age 19. He was eventually released after nine years to much fanfare. Jah Cure is a local reggae dancehall favourite in Trinidad and Tobago, having performed numerous times to sold out audiences.

He sings about life experiences - he has paid his price to society - to the best of his ability he is trying to stay on the 'right' side of the law - who are we to judge him?

how many times does it take to mention his rape charge conviction and time spent in prison to make this article worth printing...I guess three times. The article is so inconclusive and doesn't say much except to harp on the fact that it he was in prison. Wasn't worth reading.
