An IKEA store in Atlanta angered Black employees with its special menu created to honor Juneteenth because it featured fried chicken and watermelon.
Many of the staffers said the menu was insensitive and they were left so outraged that 33 people didn’t show up for work on Juneteenth (June 19) – and some even considered quitting, as reported by CBS News.

Employees who requested anonymity due to fear of repercussions showed CBS Atlanta affiliate WGCL-TV an email sent Friday that said the special menu for customers and employees was one way to “honor the perseverance of Black Americans and acknowledge the progress yet to be made.”
The menu included items such as fried chicken, watermelon, mac and cheese and collard greens.
“None of the coworkers who sat down to create the menu — nobody was black,” one anonymous employee said.
“You cannot say serving watermelon on Juneteenth is a soul food menu when you don’t even know the history — they used to feed slaves watermelon during the slavery time,” said an IKEA staffer.
“It caused a lot of people to be upset. People actually wanted to quit. People weren’t coming back to work,” he continued.
Following the backlash from both customers and employees, the manager apologized in an email on Saturday. It said in part, “I truly apologize if the menu came off as subjective. It was created with the best of intentions by a few of our coworkers who believed they were representing their culture and tradition with these foods of celebration.”
The store manager amended the menu amid the uproar, but another employee said, “They just delayed the menu by a day, thinking that everybody who was upset stayed home on Juneteenth and wouldn’t notice on Sunday, which just added insult to injury.”
The revised menu included collard greens, cornbread, mashed potatoes and meatloaf. The original Juneteenth special menu was reportedly served the following day.

I agree with you Vaughn, white people do things on purpose when they know it will upset or annoy black people. I've been catching on to them for years! I just never heard someone else thinking or saying that until now.
A white guy inside a store was talking loud on his phone and mentioned something negative about being black. Why was he talking so loud? Who did he want to hear him? I could tell that he was talking like that on purpose because he probably saw me and figured that his conversation will annoy or upset me, but I took the high road instead and went on about my business ignoring him! I left him dumbfounded that he wound up leaving the store, I guess out of embarrassment?
Cherry Butter it amazes me in 2021 we still have 2 types of useless creature in society, we have the niggers who still fear white people and still believe they are a special group and always defending white people, and the racist white people who are always using a black example tjey dont even understand hoping to use as excuse to prove their racism, i usually bypass comments when i dont agree, but with comment like that some if us have to stand up and say something otherwise idiots like that will carry their mission and continue to confuse the weak mind
EAGLE that is so intelligent of you to post such smart comment, the only problem is where is your common sense whether your black or white, now the madea and soul food movie you watched, were they about black families who get together, is that all the food you saw, on thanks giving and special occasions is that the only food on the menu in a black household, fo you also see pasta and others?
Now lets ask some questions
1- are all employees at Ikea black?
2- if its a celebration and there are other races do they all like water melon and fried chicken, or would they be forced to eat it?
3- was there other dish on the menu?
4-if its a celebration dont they suppose to serve the best food?
5- if they were honoring the black employees did they consult with any of them to find out what food they would enjoy?
6- how come non of the employees who were in charge of the food were blacks, how exactly were they honoring them unless the black employees dont have a choice or a mind of their own?
7- to you are they still working on a plantation
Im sure you can answer these questions since you are intelligent enough to post such smart comment, lets not be niggers and continue to kiss up to white people, be proud to be black and respond to God only.

Niggers in NY and other bog cities are now happy about Juneteenth when my family have been celebrating it since i was a kid, when i used to tell them about it they looked at me like i was crazy just like they do when i celebrate kwanzaa, now look at you, niggers are so grateful like God walk the earth, when in reality the white men took your rights and make you kiss his ass like he your God to give it back, your master tell you what to do when he wants to, the next holiday the white men will make official is Kwanzaa, they start to recognize it, and when they make it official they will tell you to celebrate and you will like ots something new, but now youre clowning it, do dont be mad, when you think like a slave, you live like a slave and get treated like a slave, negros will never be respected by white people until they have self love and respect, i dont care hoe many white friends you have, they only pretend until they will let it out, that's why all you niggers who claim you have white friends cannot discuss race with them, you are afraid because you know that is also your masters, dumb niggers
