Claims: Raunchy parties featuring a stripper pole and female employees performing provocative dance moves are just a few of the antics at annual parties hosted by New York Parks Department supervisors
Raunchy parties featuring a stripper pole and female employees performing provocative dance moves are just a few of the alleged antics at annual parties hosted by New York Parks Department supervisors.
The Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations, dating back to 2009, were held in lower ground room at a city-owned facility on Randalls Island.
And female seasonal workers who got up on the pole were rewarded with additional work or permanent jobs, sources said. They were also given cash as they danced according to sources.
'If you want a job, get on the pole', one man is alleged to have shouted out according to one female worker at last year’s Christmas party.
The city Department of Investigation has launched a probe into the reported antics at the parties, reported the New York Daily News
Allegations: The Christmas and New Year¿s Eve celebrations, dating back to 2009, were held in lower ground room at a city-owned facility on Randalls Island
They include a woman’s allegation that a supervisor lifted her shirt and ran his tongue across her stomach before shoving his face in her crotch when they were alone in an elevator.
Another alleged incident was a supervisors sending sexually suggestive text message and inappropriate contact from supervisors, including a bra strap being snapped.
Parks and Recreation Department spokesman Arthur Pincus told The News that the two female workers were transferred at their request.
Dilcy Benn, is the president of District Council 37 Local 1505, the union that represents the workers who filed complaints.
Ms Benn said the women were not told directly to participate in the parties, but those who did take part were more likely to be offered jobs.
A female worker, who asked not to be identified told the news outlet: 'The men started demanding a lot more. They were like, ‘You want us to give you money, show us something.'
'And for the New Year’s party, it got really grabby. Some women stripped to their panties and bras, and men were slapping asses. It was out of control.'
Comment
Many are suggesting that the women who were coerced into participating in these pole games are lacking in self respect which seems to say that this is somehow their fault. Whether it's a lack of self-respect or self-survival, sexual harassment is sexual harassment period and has no place in the work place. I women who is sexually harassed and is forced to choose between feeding her family, keeping a roof over her head or keeping her job or forced to do unrelated job activities for advancement should not be blamed for their sexual harassment. Much love Fam
All City Municipalities have strict sexual harassment and hostile work place policies in place with workers rights required to be prominently displayed for workers to review so everyone should be aware of their rights as a worker. However, if a worker has fears of reporting supervisors for sexual harassment or fear of retaliation then this is an extremely hostile work environment. All municipal facilities have a manager that is responsible for that facility, for the safety of all employees assigned to that facility and the efficient operation of that facility. Therefore, this is more than a supervisor issue it's a manager's failure to manage issue. That allowed an atmosphere for unsupervised supervisors to feel comfortable and free to sexually harass their subordinates and likely that manager participated his/herself and all should be terminated.
Good,..now the women can sue them for sexual harrasment. Be great to see the money have to come out of those guys' own pockets.
well she better get on that pole or else she will be replace, damn climb that damn pole, lol my bad but its funny if you stand for nothing you will fall for anything, desperate time call for desperate measures, if you stand your own ground you dont have to do anything you feel is against your will, she aint the first and will not be teh last, some of them at work giving head to keep their jobs, so sad
