Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin is charged with murder in George Floyd's death

UPDATE: Ex-cop (Derek Chauvin) Charged with Murder, Manslaughter in George Floyd’s Death Derek Chauvin taken into custody after George Floyd death

  • Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said cop was charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter
  • Criminal complaint revealed Chauvin kept Floyd pinned to the ground for three minutes after he passed out
  • Family's attorney Ben Crump demanded Chauvin be charged with first-degree murder
  • It comes after Minneapolis was left in ruins following third night of riots and protests over Floyd's death
  • Chaotic scenes and protests also unfolded across several states including New York, Colorado and Ohio

  • Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has been charged with George Floyd's murder as it's revealed the disgraced cop had knelt on his neck for nearly three minutes after he lost consciousness.

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Chauvin was taken into custody by state investigators on Friday afternoon and was charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter following nationwide protests and riots demanding the white officer's arrest.

The charges come a day after prosecutors had warned there was 'evidence that did not support criminal charges' in the case, saying they needed to prove Chauvin had used 'excessive' force on Floyd.

A criminal complaint on Friday shed light on the moments leading up to Floyd's death, revealing he was 'non-responsive' for almost three minutes before Chavin released him from under his knee.

It notes police officers are trained that this amount of time of restraint on a suspect in that position is in 'inherently dangerous.'

However, a preliminary autopsy did not find evidence of 'traumatic asphyxia or strangulation' and found Floyd may have died from being restrained as well as from underlying health conditions.

George Floyd: Surveillance Video Shows Events Leading Up to His Arrest/He Shows NO Resistance

george floyd - derek chauvin

At a press conference on Friday, Mike Freeman, county attorney for Hennepin County, Minnesota confirmed that former Minneapolis police office Derek Chauvin had been arrested and charged with 3rd-degree murder of George Floyd. Chauvin was seen pressing his knee on the neck of Floyd for almost 10 minutes before he died.

The other 3 officers who were a part of the arrest team with Chauvin, are still under investigation, but no charges have yet been filed.

Freeman says this is the fastest they’ve ever charged a cop. He stated that it normally takes 9 months to investigate.

Interestingly, he wouldn’t say if the 3 nights of disturbances accelerated the arrest in any way.

And in case you’re wondering … 3rd-degree murder is a crime committed without premeditation or intent to kill.

After 3 nights of unrest, it has finally happened.

Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer who was seen in viral videos with his knee on the now-deceased George Floyd, has reportedly been taken into state custody.

Floyd is the African American male suspect who was arrested by local police on Memorial Day and died in their custody.

Handcuffed Man Dies after Minneapolis Police Officer Pins him to the Ground by his Neck

We’ve got some surveillance footage of George Floyd prior to him being pinned to the ground by a totally insensitive police officer’s knee, rendering him unresponsive and ultimately dying.
The footage, from a nearby restaurant called Dragon Wok at 38th Street and Chicago Avenue, captured the initial moments of George’s run-in with Minneapolis police on a camera set up outside, reports TMZ.
The video shows police encountering Floyd who is cooperative and is led away in cuffs

Specifically, the video shows 2 vehicles parked curbside, and eventually, 2 officers approach one of the cars and tells everyone to exit. A man and a woman emerge from the passenger side, while Floyd is taken out by another officer on the driver side … seemingly struggling at first.

The cops then proceed to lead him over to the sidewalk where they sit him down. We don’t see any signs of him resisting the rest of the way.

Another police officer eventually arrived, and George was walked across the street and off-camera. He was not being led by the officer who was eventually seen with his knee on George’s neck.

A viral video later surfaced showing a white officer, who was identified as Derek Chauvin, kneeling on Floyd’s neck while Floyd pleaded, “Please, please, I can’t breathe.” After several minutes, Floyd became unresponsive. He was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Chauvin and three other officers involved in Floyd’s death were fired on Tuesday.

It’s important to recall that the police version of the story is that they were responding to a call of possible forgery.  A Dragon Wok employee says George had attempted to pay with a $10 bill they suspected was counterfeit and, due to company policy, reported it to police.

The surveillance video was released by Dragon Wok’s owner Rashad West, who says he wanted to put it out for his community.

Two Minneapolis police officers are on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into disturbing video that shows one of them pinning a black suspect to the ground, before the man appears to suffocate and pass out. He later died at the hospital.

caribmama thats the problem he knows no one will do anuthing, the protest send out a strong message to white America but what if they walk and drag him out house like the terrorist would, the italian would, lets be honest if those people were blacks the same black people would find him thats why those white cops do what they do, no one cares there is no Accountability and let me tell black people, certain things i will not state here but i discuss with the politicians i support, if Congress or state want to change the law and give police reform its only 4 articles they have to act to the law, and police would respect black people like every one else, its that simple and they pay that respect to other communities according to their practice

Minnesota is a state of complete incompetence. The police force are Keystone Cops at best.THEY ARRESTED a CNN reporter on the air. The cop that killed Floyd had 19 complaints. Amy Klobuchar (Senator and Democrat presidential candidate) once declined to prosecute Derek Chauvin, cop

Maybe at best, the "naive " may consider this as a wrongful death.?.  When someone  "dies"  while in your custody with this being the situation - it is totally,  condemning.  Heartbreaking to witness cruel and unexplainable lethal abuse dished out by trusted authorities of any kind. Yet this activity is titled "Cuffed man dies"....

It seems the writer is attempting to deflect accountability away from the officers, and possibly more toward the emergency medical responders, whom did not get invited to the scenes of this atrocity.

Growing up in the 70's-80's there were no cameras. We were taught that cops "were hostile lions that carried guns". How does one respond to a WILD ANIMAL WITH A WEAPON? We learn to avoid them, DON'T MOVE or NEVER RESIST AN ANIMAL THAT CAN KILL YOU IN MOMENTS. IT'S A MATTER OF STAYING ALIVE,  NOT BEING RIGHT.

Lol omg this is getting worse than i thought now thats a n***** who said he is highly educated he went to the only black colleges, ladies and gents read the comment did i not say there are those dumb niggers who would blame it on trump, those are the niggers who are conditioned by their masters and watch white medias and also repeat what white racist politicians and media tell them to say, its so sad all we have to do is turn on YouTube in 2010 before trump was president and see the behavior of those racist cops, now what year was Eric garner was murdered again, what about Michael Brown? Thats why i dont hang with old niggers they are the problem to the new generation, they sold us to those racist politicians for welfare and hand outs, dumb niggers

Maybe if you look at the color of their skin you will see that they resemble the color of white people. During Trump's second year in office he told the cops when they make an arrest rough up the prisoners. Trump, appointed racist republican judges all over country, to help give cops lower conviction or give them no time at all. Look who control the court system? Trump make it worse. Look how many white women and white men call the cops on black people minding their business. This country is divided on racial lines. Give Trump four more years you think it's bad now.wr can all agree or disagree but for you Mr 1 dick, your racist and uncle Tom mentality is undenying, when will you stop calling black people the N, word, it shows you have no class, so keep thinking he is not part of the problem. The saying goes "if your not part of the solution then your part of the problem." I am still waiting for the reform bill to come to , all he did was take credit for letting out a drug dealing black grandmother out of jail, and show her off in front of the camera. Fmthe funny is if it was not for Kim Khardashian, we would never hear of her.

The power is in our hands why do they come to the churches and ask for our vote, because they know we matter but they are scared to face the community democrats or republicans, dont any one ask why do they come to the churches in the black community but walk the street in the jews, gays and hispanics community, thats hoq dumb niggers are, thats why nothing has change, but they would rather argue with me or blame a republican candidate they dont vote for, instead of holding democrata accountable for all those votes all those years, niggers arw dumb as f***

Yea @Mr1stroke, some of us are still thinking if we do the right thing or dress a certain way we'll be fine; we're still being murdered. We have to realize DA's , sheriff's and some judges are voted in. We focus too much on the presidential election instead of the elections that directly effect us. Trump is low hanging fruit and insignificant in the grand scheme of this oppressive system IMO....

rashid rourk its so sad negros are so retarded all they have to tell them is because of trump now if you are intelligent you will ask what does Trump have to do with all that, but those who have been in charge have never wrote a law to change the behavior or enforce the punishment, its sad how they conditioned those people and niggers are so dumb how about take a look at how come that dont happen to the jews or gay community
