Fritz-William Michel is President Jovenel Moise’s fourth choice for prime minister.
President Jovenel Moise last night named Fritz-William Michel as Haiti’s new prime minister, following the resignation of Jean Michel Lapin.
Lapin, whose tenure was brief, having taken over from Jean Henry Ceant who was ousted in March, told a local newspaper that his stepping down was “a choice for Haiti”.
His successor, a former executive in the Ministry of Economy and Finance, must now have his nomination approved by legislators.
Michel is the fourth person chosen by Moise to head the government since his election to office two and a half years ago.
The technocrat’s appointment came after consultations between Moise and the leaders of the two chambers of parliament, signalling a resumption of dialogue after months of turmoil.
