The young mom has not been spotted since, though someone claiming to be Garcia gave a brief phone interview to a Dominican TV station in which she denied any romantic involvement with married Ortiz, 43.

'We are friends, he knows my family and the people are making things much larger,' she said in Spanish. 'His recuperation is what's important right now, not me, not the people in the clinic.'

Ortiz is back in the US and expected to recover after he was shot in the back Sunday night in a crowded patio bar in Santo Domingo's bustling Ensanche Ozama neighborhood.

Dominican model at center of Ortiz 'love triangle' revealed

Dominican Police say a gang of sicarios - hitmen - stalked Ortiz before shooting him at point blank range to claim 400,000 Dominican Pesos ($7,805) that was offered to gun down the former Red Sox star.

Police have not said who was behind the ‘murder for hire’ plot but three law enforcement sources told DailyMail.com it's believed the organizer was a Dominican drug lord who thought Ortiz was having an affair with his girlfriend.

Garcia has not been accused of any wrongdoing and denies being involved with a mobster, describing the love triangle allegation as 'totally false' in an Instagram post circulated on social media.

Alex Radetsky, a US-based agent for Ortiz, declined to comment on whether his famed client had any sort of relationship with Garcia, romantic or otherwise.

But on Monday, a representative for Ortiz, Leo Lopez denied that the shooting had anything to do with a woman but said it was the act of 'hired' killers.

He said: 'There is no doubt that it was an act of hired killers. If we had known that there was a dangerous situation, he would not have been there at that moment.

Radetsky also declined to address a set of images circulating widely in the Dominican media that appear to show that Ortiz bought Garcia a luxury SUV the day before the shooting.

The documents include a June 8 sales agreement for a Lexus RX that lists Garcia as the owner of the new car.

A bank check made out by David Americo Ortiz Arias, the ex-player's full name, shows a Bank of America check for $84,500.

The memo on the check is translated to read: 'the vehicle purchase'. The check was dated June 10, the Monday after Ortiz was shot.

The young mom has not been spotted since, though someone claiming to be Garcia gave a brief phone interview to a Dominican TV station in which she denied any romantic involvement with married Ortiz, 43

DailyMail.com approached the Santo Domingo-based dealership to verify whether the papers were genuine. A saleswoman said she was not able to speak to the media because of the ongoing police investigation.

Garcia has not been named as a suspect, nor a person of interest and there is no suggestion she was in on the murder plot.

Dominican authorities have so far arrested six men over the shooting that also wounded Dominican TV host Jhoel Lopez, who it's believed was struck in the leg once the bullet had exited Ortiz' stomach.

Director of Police Ney Aldrin Bautista Almonte told the media on Wednesday afternoon about the murder-for-hire plot.

He said the botched hit involved a 'gang' of multiple suspects caught on CCTV footage switching between cars and motorbikes as they zoned in on their target.

'This was not a crime committed by two people, this was a group effort,' Almonte told reporters.

The suspects in custody include the alleged gunman, Rolfi Ferreira, and Eddy Vladimir Féliz García, not believed to be a relation of the model, who supposedly drove him to the bar on a motorcycle.

Video from inside the Dial Bar and Lounge bar allegedly shows 25-year-old Ferreira walking up to Ortiz and shooting him with a silver Browning Hi-Power pistol.

He was able to escape in the ensuing chaos but Garcia skidded and fell off his bike and was beaten by onlookers before being taken into custody.

Garcia’s lawyer says he is an innocent moped taxi driver and had no clue what was planned on Ortiz.

Polfirio Allende Dechamps Vasquez, Oliver Moises Mirabal Acosta, Reynaldo Rodriguez Valenzuela and Joel Rodriguez Cruz are accused of coordinating the ambush and ditching the weapon.

A seventh suspect, Luis Alfredo Rivas Clase, is still at large.

Ortiz was flown back to Massachusetts General Hospital Monday on a plane provided by the Red Sox, for whom he played the majority of his glittering career, swatting 483 home runs and winning the World Series three times.

Ortiz is shown with his wife Tiffany. They have two children together and live in Miami. She was not in the Dominican Republic when he was shot. They have been married for 17 years. Tiffany said on Thursday that her husband 'continues to heal and make progress'

The ten-time all-star is expected to remain in the hospital for some time but took his first steps Tuesday after surgery to have part of his gallbladder and some of his intestines removed.

In a statement Tuesday, Tiffany, the baseballer's wife of 17 years, said: 'David arrived at Massachusetts General Hospital last night and underwent a successful second surgery.

'He’s is stable, awake and resting comfortably this morning in the ICU where he is expected to remain for the next several days.

'On behalf of me and my family, I want to thank John and Linda Henry, Tom Werner, Sam Kennedy and the Boston Red Sox for all that they are doing for David and our family, as well as Dr. Larry Ronan and the amazing staff at Massachusetts General Hospital.'

Former slugger David Ortiz arrived in Boston on a Red Sox team plane and was taken to a hospital on Monday, a day after he was shot in the back while at a Dominican Republic nightclub.

The Red Sox legend was transported from Boston’s Logan Airport to Massachusetts General Hospital by ambulance with a police escort.

Ortiz had been listed in stable condition in the intensive care unit of a Dominican Republic hospital earlier Monday following surgery for gunshot wounds.

ESPN’s Enrique Rojas tweeted Monday afternoon that Dr. Abel Gonzalez, who performed the surgery in the Dominican Republic, had said Ortiz was in stable enough condition to travel.

Images showed Ortiz being taken from the team plane and loaded onto an ambulance, which received a police escort as it made its way toward Massachusetts General Hospital.

Earlier on Monday, the first photograph emerged showing 'Big Papi' lying in a Dominican hospital bed after he was shot on Sunday evening.

The photograph, which was posted on Instagram, shows Ortiz connected to a machine while he lies sedated in a bed with a white blanket placed on top of him.

Boston Red Sox executives said they sent a team plane to the Dominican Republic to retrieve Ortiz and fly him back to Massachusetts.

Sam Kennedy, Red Sox president and CEO, said on Monday that Ortiz will be admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital in the West End section of Boston.

'I love David Ortiz,' Kennedy told reporters in Boston.

'We all love David Ortiz. Telling my kids last night what happened was really difficult.

'It’s hard to express what David Ortiz means to the Boston Red Sox.'

He said that the Red Sox would assist the Ortiz family with whatever they needed.

'We all remember that in 2013 when we needed David Ortiz the most, he was there for us in late April,' Kennedy said.

'And so it’s appropriate and expected that this community would rally around David when he needs us the most.'

Ortiz is credited with helping the city of Boston recover from the Boston Marathon bombing in April 2013.

The drug lord has not been named.

On Monday, Ortiz's representative Leo Lopez denied that the shooting had anything to do with a woman but said it was the act of 'hired' killers.

'There is no doubt that it was an act of hired killers.

'If we had known that there was a dangerous situation, he would not have been there at that moment,' Leo Lopez told Diario Libre.

Ortiz is expected to make a full recovery but suffered liver damage during the six-hour operation, his spokesman said.

He has been cleared for travel and will fly back to Boston on a plane provided by his old team on Monday once it is ready.

'The level of stability that Big Papi is showing at this moment makes it possible for him to travel immediately,' one of the doctors involved in his care told ESPN.

The former slugger for the Red Sox was shot in the back at near point-blank range while having drinks with friends including local TV host Jhoel Lopez.

Police have arrested Eddy Feliz Garcia so far but their investigation is ongoing. Garcia was chased down at the bar by a crowd of Ortiz's supporters and was beaten relentlessly until police arrived.

He was driving the motorcycle but is not the man who pulled the trigger. The shooter, who has not yet been named, is also in custody.

Police in the Dominican Republic believe former Boston Red Sox star David 'Big Papi' Ortiz was shot by two cops hired by a Dominican Republic drug lord who believed the baseball player was having an affair with his wife, DailyMail.com has learned.

Three law enforcement sources confirmed the motive on Monday as Ortiz, 43, recovered in the hospital.

The drug lord has not been named.

On Monday, Ortiz's representative Leo Lopez denied that the shooting had anything to do with a woman but said it was the act of 'hired' killers.

It is unclear if he was the person who pulled the trigger or if he was driving the motorcycle.

Among those who prayed for his recovery on Monday was former president Barack Obama.

In a video widely shared on social media afterwards, he is filmed claiming not to know anything about the attack.

In Spanish, the crowd yells at him: 'You don't know anything? You don't know anything?'

Ortiz, who retired from baseball in 2016, is from the Dominican Republic and splits his time between the city of Santo Domingo, where the attack happened, and Miami where he lives with his wife and children.

He is well known in Santo Domingo and is known to frequent the bars and restaurants where the attack happened.

Before he was shot, he and Lopez were seen with other men drinking and smoking cigars.

He was sitting at a table with Lopez when the gunman approached him on the back of a motorcycle and shot him in the back.

The crowd seized on Garcia as Ortiz was taken to the hospital.

Initial reports suggested that it was an attempted robbery but police have since dismissed that.

'We can not give you more details,' Lieutenant Pimentel of the National Police in Santo Domingo told DailyMail.com on Monday.

Ortiz was rushed into surgery at the Abel Gonzolez Clinic. Before he was operated on, he told doctors: 'Please don't let me die, I'm a good man.'

His father said on Monday that he was doing well after the operation.

'Doctors say that David is out of danger, thank God. What they have told me post-op is that the doctors believe he will recover quickly.

Lopez told Diario Libre via a WhatsApp message: 'I am well. I am recuperating.'

Ortiz previously told of his fears of being hurt in his home country.

Before a 2015 ballgame at Fenway Park, he told a Dominican journalist that he violence in his native country was out of control and that he didn’t feel comfortable carrying a firearm to protect himself in public.

'This is getting out of hand. I think they need to deal strongly because I like going to my country and I know the people love you and take care of you.

'But you know that when those dudes are out to get theirs, they are not thinking right and they could care less who is who.

'And I don’t want to carry an AK-47 inside my car over there. I don’t want to walk around everywhere with a bunch of guns. I am not a gun carrier.

'I am not a guy looking for trouble. But that's what the (present) moment is demanding you to do,' he said.

The shooting sparked an outpouring of support from both former teammates and former opponents.

'I’m at peace knowing you out of danger; you a strong man Compai, can’t wait to hear your voice.

'My thoughts and prayers are with you, see you soon,' tweeted Pedro Martinez, a former Red Sox pitcher from the Dominican Republic who was an inspiration for Ortiz on his path to MLB.

'Anxiously waiting for more news. In the meantime, only prayers for @davidortiz, Tiffany and their family,' tweeted Alex Rodriguez, former slugger for the arch-rival New York Yankees.

That is some expensive saltfish Big Papi. Men have executed each other for saltfish since the beginning of time, and it will not stop. The better it looks, and the sweeter it taste, the more men are willing to pay for the saltfish, and try to gaurd it jealously. Babes and booze are never too expensive for men who want them really bad. I wish you a speedy recovery Big Papi. Maybe the other guy should have perchased Maria a Lamborghini, and the men in her life could have tried to outspend each other for her.

Just about every idiots are saying there are good cops, the only problem is i never met one, i always see where the other cops assist the one violating the innocents, like when that cop stole the drugs from that guy, than went to the hopistal and beat him while he was on the hospital bed so he can tell him if he had more drugs, in the mesn time his f***** ass partner was taking selfies to post online instead of stopping him even while that patient was spit out blood each times he slapped him, now that was some good cops, thats how good they get, thats why they never report each other and cover up for each other, only the biggest faggots and dummies would say there are good cops

It doesnt matter where you go, cops are bums and criminals every where, any one who become cops had no better option in life and they have been very insecure, cops work for any one with money and powerful, especially drug dealers who can slit their throats with the badge. Its easy to make a bum cop do what you want, they seek attention, they want to be important like the powerful people so they will do anything for money
