ABC7′s Kris Van Cleave/Twitter
Christmas Eve at a Berry Farms toy giveaway in Southeast D.C. ended with an unexpected bang when Santa was shot in the back with a pellet gun, reports ABC7′s Kris Van Cleave
That Santa, Xavier Hawkins, has been giving out toys to hundreds of children for the last 7 years and didn’t want to leave the scene.
“We could hear it coming out the window — muffled, boom — they didn’t get hit. I’m glad I got hit and no one else got hurt,” said Hawkins.
In the spirit of Christmas, a man dressed as The Grinch stepped in hand out gifts.
“This year, I decided to give back. My heart grew three times.”
No one has been arrested; but one Twitter user said it best:

I'ts not about when JESUS was born. This man was shot doing something good for most of the ppl that live in Barry Farms that can't afford Christmas gifts for their children. If that was from a gun that man would have been really hurt. He said they will be back in 2014 and give blessings to them again. The DC area is changing & pushing African Americans to other places. Don't forget about KARMA. Sad!!!
@matthew, no one knows for sure when Jesus was born, but (if I remember right) some place it more like April, but it could be any day...so long as we celebrate it, that is what is important.
and dumb ass no one says he was born on that day, since we were not there we pick a day the world can agree on if you dont like it, you can just die to avoid seeing it every year
@matthew hawk you are the biggest idiot now show me that he was not and by the way who do you believe in, or what do you believe in, i see many b**** niggas soon they got that gun in their mouths they start crying God or jesus, like you never accepted a gift from any one or bonus from work for christmas if you havent we do understand you are lonely and love by no one, now why dont you tell us what did the lonely do at christmas, you talking all that roman s***, european how did you know all that, let me guess you read it, but you also believe it do you have any proof were you there, or you dying for some of us to agree with you, seem like you are truly miserable but you know what they say misery loves company now here is a little something that can help elevate your life
Ujima (OO-GEE-MAH) Collective Work and Responsibility reminds us of our obligation to the past, present and future, and that we have a role to play in the community, society, and world.
broke niggas are always against christmas but give their ass a gift they run and take that s***, stop the bull lol, i celebrate christmas and go straight to kwanzaa, i never miss a beat to celebrate life with my family, it is in your belief on why you are celebrating, we celebrate christmas in honor of Christ being born since i have a christian family, to be joyful and help others is the spirit, and kwanzaa is the discipline of life as we follow, we live healthy and succesfully, so we have no complaint and worries, we attack our problems before they come sometimes we can always predict the problems, we have sunday dinners, and family meeting on a regular, now thats what we call family
