Carlos Santana Praises Adele, Says Beyoncé Is ‘Not a Singer’

Adele was the big winner at the Grammys on Sunday night, walking away with five awards including Album of the Year. As a result, the British singer has been the victim of backlash from fans who felt Beyoncé should have taken home the award for her critically acclaimed project Lemonade. Even Adele seem surprised by the win, as she addressed in her heartfelt acceptance speech. The singer reportedly broke her newest Grammy in two so that she could gift half of it to Beyoncé.

There are some artists, however, who feel that the “Hello” singer was well deserving in her Grammy success. Rock guitarist Carlos Santana recently discussed the controversial decision in an interview with AAP, and when asked about Adele, his remarks were glowing. “I think Adele won because she can sing”, said Santana, before going on to explain that that he supports Adele because “she doesn’t bring all the dancers and props, she can just stand there and she just stood there and sang the song and that’s it, and this is why she wins.”

When asked about Beyoncé, Santana’s views were less . “With all respect to our sister Beyoncé, Beyoncé is very beautiful to look at and it’s just more like modeling kind of music– music to model a dress.” He went to say that the “Formation” artist is “not a singer, singer, with all respect to her.” Check out Beyoncé Grammy-winning video below.

Beyoncé is a performer, and she does it well, but Adele is a "singer," and she can sing her ass, your ass and your momma's ass off! Beyoncé's performances can take you down the road & help you deal with current issues...but Adele's music snatches your heart out of your chest-takes you down memory lane-makes you deal with past heartbreak, heals you, then brings you back a new & improved person....!

@Big Woman

Also, it's funny how people got short memories. Remember, Adele has been allowed to perform 2 times at the Grammys (this yr and last yr)....and both times she has messed up her performance. They keep giving this white girl chances to perform; you would think once you mess up one year that they will give you a "break" from performing so soon.
I seem to recall Beyoncé never messing up a performance on a big stage. S***....she fell down a flight of stairs and still never missed a beat.

Grammys are not about singing, its more about song arrangement and stage presence. Vocals come after. Keep in mind tht there are so many great singers tht cannot put a decent album together !

With all respect, he should have said "in my opinion"

Still....who is he to criticize?

I respect Santana, he makes good shoes at reasonable prices, however his music has been lacking as of late. Stop projecting your insecurities. I can judge his music skills because I am classically trained. As of right now I am beginning to respect the guy who sings about pandas more because he is musically honest.

These awards are not about who is the best singer. It's about performance and body of work being presented. But why is it that when ever they to justify not giving a black person an award here they always say "to be honest" or "no disrespect, but he or she isn't the best singer". To be honest, no disrespect, how would you know who is a good singer or not if you are not classically trained in the field you are trying to judge. Most of the people in the Grammy community aren't classically trained, so they do not judge singing ability, otherwise half these people would not get an award. Yet somehow when a black person has meaning words expressed in song, the fall back is "well they are pretty to look at".

If Adele was as real as she was trying to be she would not have taken the award period or she would have put the Grammy in the e press mail the next day when all the hype was gone.

Fact is the members of the academy are mostly old white men and probably didn't listen to Beyoncé a cd, or if they did have a teenager who told them what was in the album, they probably said "they can't have that negro recognized for speaking up against injustice and empowering black folks. How dare she?"
