Buju Banton Appeals Drug Conviction / Buju Banton on the move again, this time to a low security facility in Miami

Grammy-winning reggae star Buju Banton claims in an appeal of his federal drug conviction there was not enough evidence to prove he was involved in a cocaine conspiracy. The appeal filed Friday by attorney David O. Markus also says Banton was relentlessly pursued by a federal informant seeking a $50,000 government payday. Markus says that resulted in improper entrapment. Banton, whose real name is Mark Myrie, is serving a 10-year prison sentence following his February conviction on cocaine conspiracy and trafficking charges. A related gun charge was tossed out by a judge. Banton is extremely popular in his native Jamaica and won a Grammy for his latest album shortly before his drug conviction. It will likely be months before the Atlanta-based 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issues a decision.

A release from the legal team for incarcerated Grammy-winning dancehall artiste, Mark 'Buju Banton' Myrie, states that the family and close friends of the deejay can "breathe a collective sigh of relief".

After spending two months "living under horrible conditions at Limestone County Correctional Institution", a private prison in Groesbeck, Texas, the Jamaican music icon is now on the move and expected to be transferred to Federal Correctional Institution Miami, the low security  facility originally recommended by Judge James Moody, who oversaw his criminal case.

The Gargamel Music family expressed great thanks to the Jamaican consulate, who immediately sent a representative to report first hand on the conditions in Texas, and to Judge Moody, who wrote a letter to the BOP on Buju’s behalf.

"We are especially thankful for Buju’s attorney, David Oscar Markus of Markus & Markus Law, who worked diligently with the prison in Texas, the Jamaican consulate, the Bureau of Prisons and The Court to make this unprecedented move happen," Buju's team said in a release.

I guess the conditions in the prison that he got transferred from are more tolerable for the prisioners that are still their. It's prison what do people expect him to be living in a all inclusive suite or something. It's a good thing he's in a minimum security lock up in miami while going through his appeal, at least he can have some fellow caribbeans protecting his ass in miami. I wonder what are his grounds for a appeal, it better be some good ones.

It's not enough that they locked him up for nothing more than big talk... They have to turn him over to the Texans (need I say more) who couldn't wait to treat him like a dog... Please Lord hasten your return these animals are pure evil!!!
