Bronx groom DEAD as he hurled himself into the Harlem River hours after getting married

Witnesses said the just-married groom walked out of the Radisson and into a cab sometime before 9 a.m. Sunday.

He made his way to 55 Richman Plaza about 15 minutes away in The Bronx, where he jumped either from a building or the promenade behind it, police sources said.

An FDNY Marine unit found Brazier’s body in the waters near Roberto Clemente State Park, slightly upstream from where he’s believed to have jumped, around 3 p.m., the sources added.

The Medical Examiner’s Office is awaiting toxicology reports to determine the cause of death, but said there was no sign of foul play.

His shattered bride went to the ME’s office with his mother, Paula, to identify his body.

“She was stroking his head,” Paula Brazier-Weeks said of Hay. “She said, ‘He was having trouble, and when he has trouble he goes for a walk, but he always comes back. But he didn’t come back this time.’ ”

Brazier and Hay, 26, had dated since they were teenagers and doted on their two young daughters, ages 5 and 2 1/2, Hay’s relatives said.

But Brazier had been depressed for several months, and he and Hays had had counseling, his sister said.

“He would tell me that Trudy is a good person, [but] he didn’t want to marry her; he was feeling like he was pressured,” his sister Shawna said.

She said that Thursday night, at a family dinner, “you could see it in his eyes. He looked like he didn’t sleep for days. His eyes were red. And they’d well up.”

Brazier, who came from a divorced home, “wanted the children raised in one house” with both parents, she said.

Brazier’s brother, Kevin Weeks, recalled, “He always said, ‘Certain things, you have to do.’ ”

Brazier’s grieving bride was with her parents and family yesterday, too distraught to speak after their long-planned wedding weekend went tragically wrong.

“She’s not doing good, she’s not doing good at all,” her mom, Beverly, said. “We have no idea why he did what he did.”

The couple had “a beautiful ceremony” at the Radisson on Saturday, capped by a reception where most guests had no hint the groom was troubled, their relatives said.

“The day of the wedding, on the dance floor, he was happy,” Brazier’s mom said. “He was looking at his girls — they had beautiful dresses on.”

But Brazier’s aunt, Lee Brown, said she walked up to him at one point before the wedding ceremony and asked if he was sure he wanted to go through with it.

“He said, ‘It’s too late now,’ ” Brown said.

The couple spent the night at the hotel, and the next morning, Brazier “said he was going out for a walk,” a relative of Hay’s said.

When he didn’t come back, Hay learned from hotel staffers that he’d taken off in a taxi. The receptionist gave her the note he’d left.

New Rochelle police were called to the hotel around 10:40 a.m. Based on conversations with Hay, they put out a missing-person alert.

Hay had recently graduated college, her family said, and Brazier worked as a night security guard and was going to college to be a nurse.

His brother, Kevin, said Brazier often expressed his feelings in rap songs and recently sent him one about suicide called “Ambulance and Call in the Cavalry.”

Call it what it is, SELFISH!  Now his kids are left without a father and the rest of the family left to grieve.  He was not man enough to tell his wife what he told other relatives.  They went to counseling and he should have brought it up.  He had ample opportunity to say it is over.  HE IS SELFISH!

I agree with Malcom X, it can always be a group that he could have taken with him but he got rid of himself.

I never understood why people call people who kill them selves selfish. he took his own life. I'm against suicide but its not for me to tell another man what to do with his own life. Would you rather him be miserable and kill the whole family. Maybe he knew that he might be like that other bastard who through the baby in the river.

Don't know the dude or his story but I could never call some one selfish for killing them self and them self only. Because this could have went down with him taking people with him, because its obvious he wsn't in his right mind. and there is sttill no proof he wasn't murdered yet. 55 Richmond is river park towers. I personally know two people who were murdered over there one in the building and one shot in the face in front. I grew up on Sedgewick avenue right around the corner it's always been a rough part of the bronx.

Now I don't know him, his family, nor his situation...

I'm Just speculating----and please note No Disrespect intended

But...If they were PLANNING a WEDDING for THREE YEARS...

They probably weren't thinking MARRIAGE for a lifetime. Again opinion...

I strongly believe that there is a difference between aWEDDING & aMARRIAGE.  And all too often here in the West the two are used interchangeably.

I have no doubts that he loved his children and his wife.

In fact I am almost certain that he loved his wife so much...he agreed to planning and having the wedding with her.

But ME speculating---behind closed doors, in the privacy of their home---they probably were not LIVING LOVE...But while in public and to those who knew them - They were so
IN LOVE...  It was only natural that they have a wedding.

FYI--- the US divorce rate is 53% --- the highest of any country. most couples
Are divorces just 2 years after their wedding...

This country is rated for having the best healthcare system---yet has the HIGHEST rate of suicide and infant mortality.

What gets me the saddest in this tragedy is that---yet another black woman is left to raiser her children alone and two little black girls are without their father.  I pray for them all.

But at the end of the day...praying is all I can personally do them...

But in our own personal lives and circles---we should each one teach one---not just talk about it, be about it-----practice true talk - no chaser and recognize and acknowledy, know and understand that GOD is love so it is only natural that we continuously LIVE LOVE! Peace and many blessings.

Thanks all!!! I'm a lifetime member of True Talk - No Chasers.

@ Simone you are truly correct...when you say all one can do is speculate.

But funny thing about speculations...Its often closer to the truth than many care to acknowledge, accept or identify

"one", family, friends, spouses, children, men,  women, wifes, husbands, All speculate.

And the worse thing is - all people have to do is practice True Talk - No chaser - and most of the issues they face could be resolved.

More often than not people dont says what they need to say cause they don't want to hurt the other ones feels. Or they don't want to let someone down. Or they want to keep up with the joneses.

That in itself can weaken even the strongest and make them do and act in ways they wouldn't often.

Bottom Line to this is!  Family members if you "SEE SOMETHING" SAY "SOMETHING".  If this had been my brother and I saw all these symptoms they'd have been no marriage.  I don't care how much in love they are.  His sister saw he was depressed, and he told her he didn't want to get married.  His aunt saw he was depressed, EVERYONE saw he was depressed and didn't want to get married EXCEPT his BRIDE!!   How can you live with someone and don't see the symptoms.  I'll tell anyone, you don't have to be a PSYCHIATRIST TO see when someone isn't  happy with you.  There's no such thing as "pretend" to be happy.  If you're with the person long enough you know how they act.  He had red eys at the family dinner, eyes welling up, day of wedding, the clue was "it's too late".  It's never too late.  Better to leave him/her standing at the alter than to have to plan for a "FUNERAL".

That's my view.

Depression/stress is no joke.  It has "no name".  IT AFFECTS EVERYONE, NO MATTER HOW BIG, SMALL, STRONG OR WEAK YOU ARE.  Don't think because you're this big, grown, strong ass person that it won't hurt you because it will.  My prayers go out to his Kids for having such ......

COME ON MAN No matter how bad things are you don't kill yourself when you have two beautiful young children depending on you, and a beautiful woman willing to share the life with these children. He could have spent some time with his family instead, with those beautful little ones and that woud have changed his mind instead of going off alone. Really sad indeed.

The man normal state of mind was gone. You don't just wake up and decide to kill yourself. Something leadnup to this. Depression can play a big role. I don't judge people like him because some are stronger than others. I am just happy he did not take anyone with him.
