BREAKING NEWS: Toni Braxton Reveals She’s Battling Life-Threatening Disease

Singer Toni Braxton appeared at a luncheon benefiting lupus awareness and research that revealed that she too is battling the potentially deadly autoimmune disease.

“Take a look, this is what lupus looks like,” Braxton said to a surprised audience as she accepted one of two Women in Achievement awards at the 8th Annual bag Ladies Luncheon reports

Braxton who is an American Heart Association spokeswoman also suffers from pericarditis, an inflammation of the heart lining that has left her prone to high blood pressure and heart palpitations and has interfered with her performance schedule over the years.

This has been a rough year for the singer, she’s also dealing with financial difficulties.

We hope she gets through this.

Let's ALL remember to be sensitive and kind towards other people's deseases, disorders and ailments. One never knows when the day might come when you, or your loved ones, become stricken with any one of these devastating health issues.

I was diagnosed with Lupus in '06. My symptons started in '02 I was on a cruise. It is very hard to diagnose. You have to be very aggressive with your health and do your own research. I had to change my doctor because she could not find a diagnosis for 4 yrs. It took the new doctor 2 mins into my consultation and I got a diagnosis which was correct. I was at deaths door. I can say now I am a lot better. I had a tough uniformed job working behind the "gates". I was offered disability retirement, which I took. I now get a retirement pension "Fuh Life". There are a lot of silent Lupus sufferers in our communities. The FDA approved a new drug this week thee first time in 50 years, imagine that.

@ Sugarymama - smdh, I'm never surprised @ the foolishness sometimes posted on here

FYI- Tisha Campbell, Reggie White, Beethoven, Evander Hollyfield and Angie Stone also suffer from Sarcoid. Doctors say it's pretty common in the black community.

And you are def right, Bernie died of complications from the disease. They say he had to have oxygen on the set of his show during the week prior to his passing. His wife has a foundation for Sarcoid and she's constantly fund raiseing for a cure :-)

In response to Amy's comment, "WTF is Sarcoisoisis..." It's not the most common disease out there, but it's not unknown. I happen to know a few people who have it, and Bernie Mack actually died from complications from the disease. Perhaps you should do your research before you post a comment, because what you stated makes you sound retarded.

Toni is extremely resillient, she'll come through this as always. She also has Sarcoidosis, the same disease Bernie Mac died from. Hang in there Mrs. Braxton <3

@ LiveLovin Much Blessings to you...we really need to educate ourselves because the dr's and pharmaceutical companies are in business together...I'm a firm believer that God gave us every tool necessary (on earth) to live well...Everything we need is available to us...we just have to find it...and sometimes, it's the simpliest thing....Bless

well said @ Mich. Personally it took many years for the drs to finally diagnose me with SLE & R.A. prior to that i felt like they thought i was a hypochondriac cos of my frequent visits and various aches n pains....but i KNOW my body and i knew something was wrong. i think that because lupus has sooooo many symptoms it is easy to misdiagnose so unlless they specifically test for that then you will just be told its 'wear n tear', migraines, old age,, and the likes. we need more information in our communities and perhaps we can avoid the misdiagnoses, drs need to gen up too.
