On February 2, 2017 Al Roker announced that Tamron Hall would be leaving the Today show and NBC News. "We want to wish her nothing but the best, much continued success, and cannot wait to see what her next chapter is," Al said at the time.
Right away, the announcement shocked Today show fans, with many wonderingwhat the real reason behind Tamron's sudden departure was (and if it had anything to do with the arrival of Megyn Kelly from Fox News).
Here's what Tamron has said about her exit:
Why did Tamron Hall really leave Today?
Reports began to surface in late January of 2017 that Megyn was "being considered" for her own hour-long program on Today that would air in the fall. She was either going to take over the 9.a.m. hour, which Tamron and Al were running at the time, or the 10 a.m. hour that belonged to Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb.
What's more, the network made clear that if they put Megyn in the 10 a.m. slot, they'd move KLG and Hoda up an hour. The same wasn't true for Al and Tamron, however. As The New York Times put it, "the current iteration of the third hour of Today ... will be at thing of the past once Ms. Kelly's show begins."
All while this unnerving news was going around, Tamron's contract with NBC happened to be up in February. The journalist had been with NBC since 2007, having first joined MSNBC and later becoming a part of Today in 2014. She was allegedly in the process of negotiating her contract when the news broke.
However, Tamron decided to walk away just days after reports about Megyn surfaced.
“Yesterday was her last day as an anchor on both networks,” a statement from NBC News read on February 1, 2017. “Tamron is an exceptional journalist, we valued and enjoyed her work at Today and MSNBC and hoped that she would decide to stay. We are disappointed that she has chosen to leave, but we wish her all the best.”
Additionally, Tamron shared her own statement: "The last 10 years have been beyond anything I could have imagined, and I’m grateful. I’m also very excited about the next chapter. To all my great colleagues, I will miss you and I will be rooting for you.”
Where is Tamron Hall now?
Fast forward to today, and Tamron couldn't be doing better. For one, Tamron recently welcomed her first baby with her husband, Steve Greener, in late April. The 48-year-old journalist was ecstatic to share the news about her baby boy named Moses.
"Moses & Mama!! I can’t wait to introduce y’all to my #sonshine," she wrote on Instagram. "Photo credit: Dad who can’t stop crying tears of joy. Thank y’all for the love and support. It got us here."
Behind the scenes though, Tamron shared with People that she was initially worried about telling people she was pregnant, which explains why she didn't reveal the truth to fans until she was at the 8-month mark.
"I was high-risk, not just because of my age, but there were other medical factors, too,” she told the publication. "I was terrified I would lose this baby and I would have to go back and tell everyone that now it was bad news and after this pregnancy had gone so far.”
Fortunately, Moses and Tamron are doing well. And now, on top of being a new mom, Tamron has her own talk show launching on September 9, 2019. Varietyexplains that the set up will be like the Oprah Winfrey Show and Phil Donahue Show and will cover both light-hearted lifestyle topics as well as in-depth stories.
All in all, Tamron is the living, breathing definition of the old saying, "When one door closes, another one opens." But even though she is thriving now, Tamron admitted to GoodHousekeeping.com that her mind was racing when she left NBC.
"On the outside, it looked like it was all together. 'Look at her, she's walking out, her head up.' My head is never going to be bowed, but I had to pray not to be broken," Tamron explained.
But eventually, she realized that everything does, in fact, happen for a reason.
"I don't think I've ever said this out loud, but every 'no' that I received in my life, and there have been many, it's made sense at some point in time," she reflected. "We are not the biggest job we've landed ... I'm not Tamron from the Today show. I'm Tamron."

Tamron has kept her love life very much under wraps, preferring to keep details about her romances as private as possible.
However in February 2017, around the same time that she was making her rather abrupt exit from Today, the TV host revealed during an interview with Steve Harvey that she was dating someone who worked in 'entertainment', however gave away few other details as to his identity.
She did admit that living life in the public eye has made it difficult for her to date, although noted that the toll has actually been more difficult for the men.
'You know, I feel it’s tougher for the guys, because if I break up with them, then they can go on and be forced to watch me on TV everyday,' she joked. I don’t see them.
It is not known whether the man she referred to back in 2017 is her now-husband, however she is understood to have tied the knot with music executive Steven Greener, the head of music talent management at Primary Wave Entertainment.
The company works with a wide variety of artists including Alice Cooper, Melissa Etheridge, and Plain White T's. According to Variety, Steven started his music management career looking after Will Smith, and he has also had a hand in the production of several movies.

And as if those two pieces of news weren't enough to keep her fans happy, the TV anchor also shared the premiere date of her new talk show Tamron Hall, revealing that it will debut on Monday, September 9.
'When one door closes… (say it with me) another one opens!' Hall wrote on Instagram.
'@disney just announced that my nationally syndicated daytime talk show Tamron Hall will premiere on 9-9-19! I am also proud to share that I will serve as an Executive Producer on our new show, alongside legendary producer Bill Geddie!'
Before work started on her own talk show, Tamron was formerly the national news anchor for NBC News, day-side anchor for MSNBC, host of the program MSNBC Live with Tamron Hall, and a co-host of Today's Take, the third hour of Today.
However in February 2017 she announced she was leaving Today, shortly before Megyn Kelly was due to take over the third hour of Today from Tamron and Al Roker, who had co-hosted the segment for the previous three years.
'The last 10 years have been beyond anything I could have imagined, and I’m grateful,' Tamron said at the time. 'I’m also very excited about the next chapter. To all my great colleagues, I will miss you and I will be rooting for you.'
