A New Jersey boy who was part of a championship double dutch team was struck and killed by a car in Jersey City as he was walking home.
8-year-old Jeremiah Grant was with a group of other kids on Saturday when he rushed across the street and was hit by a car. Although the boy was rushed to Jersey City Medical Center, he died the next day.
According to witnesses, the driver at first pulled off in an attempt to get away , but several Good Samaritans were able to catch up to him by running after him.
One of those Good Samaritans was Jose Pimento, who said that the driver appeared to be dazed. “I heard the screaming, so I noticed the guy was pulling away, so I ran after him and was able to stop the guy on foot..[and] I start banging on his window. Another gentleman was following as well on foot and said he didn’t know. He said he felt like he went over a bookbag,” he said.
The driver, a 60-year-old man, reportedly did not try to leave after being pulled over, and the police remained on the scene. They are not characterizing the incident as a hit-and-run, and no charges have yet been filed.
Jeremiah was part of the Honey Bees, a champion double-dutch roping group, which has even appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
Comment
So sad, this sweet little boy had so much potential and so much to live for. My condolences to the grieving family. I can't imagine how difficult this must be for all his family to take in. He was a beautiful child, may he rest in peace and rise in glory.
