NEW YORK — State health officials are investigating complaints patients in a hospital neonatal unit were mistreated while Beyonce was there giving birth to her and Jay-Z's daughter.
They had received two complaints about Manhattan's Lenox Hill Hospital, health department spokesman Michael Moran said Wednesday. One was made anonymously, and the other was from someone who had learned about the matter through the media, he said. Officials would be looking into whether any regulations were violated, he said.
The hospital said it would fully cooperate with the inquiry, and it announced Wednesday it was conducting its own probe into the complaints about the treatment of neonatal unit patients.
Beyonce gave birth to the couple's baby, Blue Ivy Carter, at the hospital on Saturday.
Media reports said Beyonce and Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, paid $1 million to take over a floor and their security guard blocked parents from the neonatal unit for hours. The hospital denied the reports, saying the couple paid the standard rate for an executive suite without disclosing what that is.
One new mother, Rozz Nash-Coulon, told The Associated Press that her twins, born Dec. 28, were in the neonatal unit and, starting Friday, intense security measures made it a struggle to see them as guards directed hallway traffic.
"Once they checked in there was high security everywhere," she said Monday. "It looked like the president was on our floor. The hospital's security cameras were taped over. Internal windows from the hallways into the ward were blacked out."
The hospital's executive director was heading up its own inquiry into the complaints, hospital spokeswoman Barbara Osborn said. The hospital was interviewing parents who had children in the newborn wing when Jay-Z and Beyonce were there, she said.
"We have spoken to seven out of the 10," she said. "None have reported being stopped from seeing their babies."
She confirmed that security cameras were briefly taped over when the Carter family was being moved, "but only when a security guard was present" on the fourth floor, where the neonatal unit is located. She declined to say why they were taped over.
She said that other parents at the unit did notice "enhanced security." But she said none felt restricted from accessing the unit or any other at the hospital.
Jay-Z confirmed the birth of the couple's daughter in a song released on his social website Life and Times on Monday.
Lenox Hill Hospital is a popular choice for the rich and famous – from late philanthropist Brooke Astor to "30 Rock" star Tina Fey.

As Beyonce and Jay-Z's family and celebrity friends celebrate the birth of the couple's first child, a daughter named Blue Ivy, some people are complaining about the treatment they received while trying to see their own babies at the same hospital.
Beyonce gave birth Saturday at New York City's Lenox Hill Hospital, and new father Neil Coulon of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, says Beyonce's baby security team blocked him from seeing his own premature twins several times.
"Three times they stopped me from entering or exiting the NICU (Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit) and it happened once on Friday -- just because they wanted to use the hallway.” Coulon told the New York Daily News.

Beyonce and Jay reportedly shelled out $1.3 million dollars to seal off and redecorate a wing, complete with bulletproof glass and ultra-tight security measures that included guards patrolling the hallways with headsets.
Coulon says that at one point the security team cleared the entire sixth floor waiting room where his relatives were.
"They should have been more strategic about it,” he said. “These are children with problems in intensive care and you're just going to take over the hospital like you own it? All I want is an apology. I know they spent $1.3 million and I'm just a contractor from Bed-Stuy, but the treatment we received was not okay. My wife is just terribly upset. She had a C-section. She gave birth to twins. She is sore. Nobody needs this."

“Some people were upset,” one staffer said. “I heard a gentleman say he couldn’t go upstairs to see his baby (Saturday)."
“This is the NICU. Nobody cares if you’re a celebrity. Nobody is star-gazing. They just want to see their children,” Coulon added. "To have that circus roll into town and ruin our parade was unpleasant.”

Beyonce and Jay-Z’s baby Ivy Blue Carter isn’t even a full day old yet, and already as expected, people are anxiously awaiting to see after which parent the baby mostly resembles.
For those waiting on pics of Ivy Blue to surface, we’d advise you to not hold your breath til you turn “Blue” if you will because according to the parents, it’s not happening.
According to The Huffington Post:
Despite the rumors, Beyonce and Jay-Z’s baby did not make its debut on New Year’s Eve. But when the little bundle of joy does arrive, don’t expect to catch a glimpse of Babyonce on the cover of a celebrity weekly.
“They are one of the most private couples,” one magazine editor told me. “We have made several offers to their people about running exclusive images of mother and baby and no one has responded.”
Today, some celebrity babies are splashed across the covers of weekly magazines before they’ve even opened their eyes. Often when such a deal is made, the contract stipulates that the baby cannot be seen in public for a few weeks before and/or after the magazine hits the newsstands.
“If Beyonce and Jay-Z do decide to share their child with the world, they will probably go the same route as Tom Cruise and Katie [Holmes],” the editor explains. “Instead of selling the images to a weekly publication, they would give them away for nothing to lock in a cover of a monthly like Vanity Fair. But knowing this couple, it is unlikely we will ever see a staged picture of the child.”
Well, if they do choose to give the baby pics away for free, we hope that they hook us up first.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z have welcomed their first child - a baby girl, it has been reported.
The music power couple have named their daughter Blue Ivy Carter, according to E! Online.
The 30-year-old singer gave birth to her daughter by scheduled caesarean section at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City last night and the website reports 'multiple sources' have confirmed the news.
Her 42-year-old rapper husband Jay-Z, real name Shawn Carter, was by her side during the birth.
A source told Beyonce's hometown newspaper Houston Chronicle that 'mother and baby are doing fine'.
Despite initial confusion the baby was named Ivy Blue, E! reporter Ken Baker later clarified friends of the couple have confirmed the newborn was actually called Blue Ivy.
Celebrities have already started tweeting their congratulations to the couple with Russell Simmons and Rihanna were among the first.
Russell posted: 'Congrats to my good friends Beyonce and Jay-Z.'
Rihanna posted: 'Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih.'
We've been waiting for you: Rihanna wasted no time welcoming the babe into the world
Public congratulations: Russell Simmons was one of the first celebrities to tweet the news
According to the New York Daily News, Beyoncé checked into the Upper East Side hospital under the name Ingrid Jackson.
Beyoncé, who was spotted out with her mother on Thursday night, is said to have booked out the entire fourth floor spending $1.3million it has been claimed.
On Saturday night, deliveries of takeaway food and bottles of red wine were being delivered to the hospital's private wing.
While a spokesperson for the power couple - who are said to be worth $750million - was not available for comment, security is said to have been tightened at the hospital.
Reported: The 30-year-old singer is said to have checked into Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City under a false name
At one point, a doctor was heard complaining the heavy security meant he couldn't check up on his patients properly.
The hospital isn't far from the couple's TriBeCa, Manhattan apartment, where they spend most of their time while not on tour.
The couple, who have been married since 2008, also recently bought a mansion in Miami Beach, Florida.
Confusion: E! reporter Ken Baker clarified Blue was the baby's first name not middle name on his Twitter page
Within hours of baby Blue's reported arrival, one fan started up a parody Twitter account called @IvyBlueCarter, with a digitally-created image of what the baby could look like.
Baby rumours reached fever pitch on December 30 with reports that Beyoncé had given welcomed a daughter called Tiana May Carter.
It came after reports suggested that staff at St Luke's Roosevelt Hospital - a private facility in New York - had been told to prepare for a VIP arrival.
But Beyoncé's sister Solange rebutted the rumours by telling fans that the singer had spent New Year's Eve at her house party in Brooklyn.
The 25-year-old confirmed Beyonce was very much still pregnant and tweeted: 'Shout out to my sister for being THE cutest pregnant woman ever!'
Are they parents yet? There has been considerable speculation for weeks after it was falsely reported that the singer and her husband Jay-Z had welcomed their child
The former Destiny's Child singer was also seen out earlier on New Year's Eve dining at the Buttermilk Channel restaurant in Brookly on New Year's Eve with Jay-Z.
Last Thursday, Beyoncé emerged in public for the first time since being last spotted on December 21.
The 30-year-old was seen stroking her tummy as she left a New York office building escorted by a bodyguard and her mother Tina.
Beyoncé announced her pregnancy at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards back in August, when she arrived on the red carpet cradling her tiny bump.
Showing off the bump: The singer was seen showing off her pregnant shape in New York in November
The singer also showed off her growing tummy after her onstage performance at the same ceremony - unbuttoning her sequinned jacket and rubbing her tummy.
It was originally thought she was due in February, but Beyonce revealed in scenes from her Live At Roseland: Elements Of 4 DVD - which was filmed in September - that she was six months pregnant at the time.
Back in October the former Destiny's Child faced internet rumours that she was 'faking' her pregnancy after an interview she did for Australian TV was posted online.
Critics claimed that when the Texan sat down her bump disappeared.
But Beyonce's rep quickly batted down those rumours saying they were 'foolish'.
Parody: Within hours of the birth being revealed, a fake account claiming to represent baby Blue - but with her name spelt the wrong way round - appeared on Twitter

@Vana, you don't need a hospital for a caesarian section. A hospital is probably recommended in the case of an emergency but for 1.3 million dollars they can take a room in your house and turn it into a hospital room. Think about it, Michael Jackson had hospital rooms in "Neverland" set up to save a kid life if it came down to it. When soldiers get hurt at war and need emergency surgery, they don't take them to no hospital a lot of times that have tents set up as hospitals and they can do almost anything a hospital can do. So with that being said, if they wanted that must privacy then they should of kept they ass home!!! But if she wanted to go to a hospital then she should of kept her damn mouth shut if she wanted privacy or gave out a fake date and place just like she checked in under a fake name!!! Like I said "she wanted the front line" and she got it because she paid good money to get it. I sure would love to know who pocket that 1.3 million dollars went in........
I thought they say it is hip hop that was supposed to change the World? I thought Black People who is the victim of poverty because of slavery were looking for Freedom. But I guess with money you can make believe that you are free and yet be dumb.
I thought Jay-Z came from the Projects where women cannot even afford hospital visit to check on their pregnancy because they have no medical coverage.
If he needed privacy this much his money could afford the best midwife to come to his mansion and deliver the baby. Is giving birth the same thing as having a baby cut out of you?
Slave with money does not see themselves as slaves, and is in competition with their Masters. "Monkey see monkey do". Does a million dollar delivery protect their baby from the cruel world that she has now entered?
Since they say money can do good, as a Race that is kept in poverty, this is what we do with the money given to us by the Master? A million dollar to have a baby cut out of you. Do we not se or do we not want to see our embarrassment??
Well it shows how much in a deep sleep the Black race is in, Jay Zzzzzzz!!!
@ Big F*;Well said.
Lenox Hill Hospital have major politician, celebrities and villains as patients all the time and have a good security staff.
I now have an opinion that this maybe a media stunt over executed.
As an alternative hey could have the baby at sea in floating hospital and staff of chose.
(CBS/AP) NEW YORK - Health officials in New York have reviewed and dismissed complaints that patients in a hospital neonatal unit were mistreated while Beyonce was there giving birth to her and Jay-Z's daughter.
Health department spokesman Jeffrey Gordon says they received two complaints about Manhattan's Lenox Hill Hospital. He says both were dismissed by Wednesday night.
All this is what they wanted to happen because if they didn't then they wouldn't had gave out the information of when and where the baby was going to be born to the media. They wanted to feel like the president of the united states because there was really no reason for them to block off any streets or shut down any floors in the hospital because she was having a baby. Beyonce could of went and got in that hospital without any one knowing and she could of had that baby with out any one knowing. Stars go in and out of the hospital all the time and they don't shut no streets down or no hospital floor down for them. Beyonce case, she wanted to be on the front line (like she always do) so she went through all that money to do so. I'm not a big fan of beyonce but I'm also not hating on her, I'm happy for the both of them on they new child cause it's always a blessing when a child is born. On 9-11 my baby was in the hospital dying and everyday after work I would go sit with her but on that day they stopped me at the door and said "if it's not an emergency no one can get in the hospital to visit any one". I understood cause it was a "state of emergency" but in my heart I felt really bad cause that was my baby. So, I know how them families felt when they was told that they couldn't go see they baby because beyonce had the floor. Like I said, I'm happy for them but all that extra s*** was some bull s***!!! That only shows that when a person want to be notice they will go the extra mile if they got it. There are comments that are trying to make it seem like it was ok for them to shut s*** down because Beyonce was having a baby, well why is it that this is the first time I ever heard a hospital going through all that and there are many stars who had babies???
Lenox Hill is one of the best hospitals in NYC.
You can't use a midwife if you want a caesarian section. You need a hospital for that.
