Flash flooding killed at least 45 people in the Northeast, including 23 in New Jersey alone and 12 in New York City as cleanup is underway from the 'historic' weather event that officials blamed on climate change.

The destructive flooding was felt in New Jersey, where satellite images showed a baseball stadium that is home to the New York Yankees minor league affiliate submerged in water.

Maxar Technologies on Thursday also released images showing the town of Manville, New Jersey both before and after torrential downpours left it completely flooded.

At least 23 people died in New Jersey, Governor Phil Murphy told reporters.

'The majority of these deaths were individuals who got caught in their vehicles,' he said.

Murphy on Thursday requested that President Joe Biden issue a major disaster declaration due to the impact from the remnants of Ida. Biden accepted the governor's request.

The New York Police Department said that out of 12 people who died in the city, one of them perished in a car and 11 in flooded basement apartments that often serve as relatively affordable homes in one of the nation´s most expensive housing markets. The victims ranged from the ages of 2 to 86.

Five people died in Pennsylvania; one in Maryland; and one in Connecticut.

'Among the people MOST at risk during flash floods here are those living in off-the-books basement dwellings that don't meet the safety codes necessary to save lives,' lawmaker Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.

According to NBC News, at least 14 people were killed Wednesday night as remnants of Hurricane Ida hit New York and New Jersey with tornadoes, record rain, and extreme flooding.

Videos online showed the results of the storm ripping through different parts of the East Coast. Sadly, four women, three men, and a 2-year-old boy died in five separate flooding incidents in the city, police said. Over in Passaic, New Jersey, firefighters recovered a body from a vehicle that went underwater when it was caught in floodwaters near the Passaic River, the town’s mayor said.

A spokesperson for Mayor Christian Bollwage also confirmed to NBC News Thursday that in Elizabeth, New Jersey, five residents at the Oakwood Plaza Apartments complex died.

In related news, rescuers were seen in a video plucking people off a roof in a town just north of Philadelphia on Thursday after the Schuylkill River flooded, as the remnants of Hurricane Ida left a trail of damage across the Northeast.

A rescue boat arrived at a house surrounded by feet of murky water and saved two people from off the roof, footage from NBC10 Philadelphia showed.

Flooding levels for the Schuylkill River broke records, according to the National Weather Service, with water reaching a height of 26.85 feet at its peak.</p

Let this be a lesson that the infrastructure of NY & NJ are in dire repair and won't be repaired because the lawmakers are total thieves.  The lottery money is supposed to be used for schools and road works, but of course the money is diverted to the same lawmakers' pockets.  They keep raising taxes in NY, in the 5 boroughs they have red light cameras, speed cameras, school zone cameras and millions of dollars are collected from this revenue.  No one seems to know where all that money is going.  But I know one thing, it's not going to better any of the lives of the poor.  There's more bad weather to come and with that more death and destruction.

I landed in NY last Sunday, so I stayed for my meetings and was supposed to leave tomorrow, that was the worse experienced ever in a storm, to start there is no where to evacuate in NY, if there is a real emergency those who lives in NY are f***, the people are idiots with no common sense, the governor and every one else called for a state of emergency for people not to get out, guess what the idiots chose to get out in the middle of the storm, so many cars stuck i kept driving on the shoulder on the way back to my hotel, all I saw was little Honda accords, maximas, BMW and bender, not one sub, the sewer system is trash, water was just floating on the streets, thank God I stayed at Laquinta, I was safe, I left that state yesterday in case they stop people from getting out, they were cars stuck all over the grand central, bqe and the kosckisco bridge, that is messed up for a city with so much hype
