Accused: Brothers Frank and Michael Meringolo have been charged with assault after they allegedly made racial slurs and threw salt and peppers shakers at a black couple

A couple's trip to a New York pizza place last week that erupted into racially-charged hate crime has resulted in a planned protest, a potential lawsuit and criminal charges.

According to reports, Willie and Alfie Marshall were visiting Paesano II Pizza in Greenlawn, New York last Saturday when a complaint about the food escalated into an all out brawl with blood spilled, and racial slurs hurled along with salt and pepper shakers.

Willie Marshall said it was the most shocking thing of his life.

'He stomped me in my face and then he made a racial slur - I don’t want to say it on the air, I don’t want to do that,' Mr Marshall said, adding that a worker shouted, 'This is for Obama.'

Pizza: The hate crime happened here at Paesano II Pizzeria in Greenlawn, New York

According to CBS, Mr Marshall and his wife Alfie Marshall had complained about a problem with their two slices of pizza.

The Marshalls said the employees refused to correct the problem or give them refund, and instead and began cursing and screaming racial slurs.

The Marshalls then claim as they turned to leave, the employees, brothers Frank and Michael Meringolo, made a comment and threw salt and peppers shakers at Ms Marshall.

Mr. Marshall also says he was hit in the altercation and that the two men used 'ugly language,' CBS 2′s Tony Aiello reported.

Injury: Mr Marshall shows reporters his eye injury he claims he suffered in the assault

The pizzeria employees were charged with misdemeanor assault.

'We don’t deserve this, and nobody else deserves this either,'  Marshall said.

'The allegations as they appear to be, that one of the employees had said "This is for Obama." You tell me what that means?' said the Marshalls’ attorney, J. Stewart Moore.

'He used the ‘N’ word. He said [expletive] this is for Obama,' Willie Marshall added.

Attacked: Ms Marshall claims owners of a pizza place attacked her after she complained about her pizza

The attorney for the pizzeria’s owner said Marshall threw a jar of Parmesan cheese at his clients, not the other way around as claimed, 1010 WINS’ Gary Baumgarten reported.

The Meringolo brothers also claimed Alfie Marshall was hurt inadvertently when her husband ran and bumped her into the door.

They also claim they used no racial slurs.

'The allegation by Mr. and Mrs. Marshall that the incident on November 24 was quote a racial attack or an Obama backlash is completely untrue,' defense attorney Richard Toscani said.

The pizzeria employees claim Willie Marshall initiated the altercation.

z

Peaceful: Mr Marshall said he was peaceful until he saw pizza place employees attack his wife

Mr Marshall said he was peaceful until he saw his wife was injured, CBS reported.

'As I was going out the door, there were some chairs standing there, and quite naturally, when I saw the blood I got very angry and I kicked the chairs,' he said.

The Marshalls said they are considering filing a lawsuit.

According to CBS, their church is planning a peaceful protest march at the pizzeria next week.

At first, the district attorney did not classify the incident as a bias crime, but later Friday afternoon, prosecutors announced they were referring the case back to the Suffolk County Police Department for further investigation.

Flashback: Life imitates art, as the incident is eerily similar Spike Lee's movie 'Do The Right Thing.' Here Lee and Danny Aiello act in a scene from the movie

The incident is right out of filmmaker's Spike Lee's 'Do The Right Thing.'

In the movie, Italian owners of a pizzeria get into an argument with black customers that triggers a neighborhood riot.

I am inclined to believe the couple who was attacked. Ever since President Obama was first elected to office white folk have been coming out of their face and are really angry at black folks. With him being re elected it has gotten even worse.

I hear all types of people including white folks go to Sylvia's Soul Food restaurant in Harlem.   I would love to go to Sylvia's someday.

Talk about supporting black businesses, so many Dominican hair salons are filled with black customers.  I hear so many black women say they prefer to go to Dominican hair salons because they say the Dominicans work on black hair better than black salons.

And someone was right, Italians are one of the worst people when it comes to morals and dignity.  I also hear that their High School drop out rate is worst than blacks.

I like all types of food.  I like anything that tastes good.  I eat pizza and pasta because they are delicious, culture has nothing to do with it in my case.  I won't stop eating pizza or pasta.  I just won't buy pizza or pasta from that particular restaurant.  I'll just purchase pizza and pasta somewhere else.

Those employees probably did something to the pizza on purpose just so that the black couple can complain so that there can be a reason to start a fight.  Those two employees knew what they were doing when they deliberately did something to that couple's pizza.  Who knows, they probably spat in it.
