  • Durant was targeted by Peyton and chided for joining the winning Warriors
  • MVP Russell Westbrook tried not to smile when Manning brought him into it

NBA star Kevin Durant was caught on camera during the ESPY's looking not impressed while host Peyton Manning ripped into him for joining the winning Golden State Warriors team last season.

'Our gymnastics team was so dominant that Kevin Durant told me he wants to play for them next year,' Peyton cracked during his opening monologue. The internet had a field day making memes of Durant's icy glare.

'I gotta tell you, I don't think you'd start for that team, Kevin,' Peyton said, as Durant barely moving his head continued to scowl.

Peyton, refusing to let up, brought Durant's former teammate Russell Westbrook into the fun asking 'What do you think?' Westbrook, the leagues MVP, only reply was what looked like disgust covering a slight smirk.

Durant has been hounded for months over his decision to leave Westbrook and the Thunder to join a 73-win Warriors team in his quest for an NBA title.

The internet found pure joy at Durant's expense with memes a la Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney's 'Not impressed' memes.

'When mom invites your ex GF to the BBQ,' tweeted sportswriter Andrew Hammond.

Kevin Durant Leaves Oklahoma City. Signs With Golden State Warriors

Kevin Durant has bolted from the Oklahoma City Thunder to sign a two-year, $54.3 million free agent contract with the Golden State Warriors, sources told ESPN's Marc Stein. The deal includes a player option after the first year.

He leaves a team that was one win away from beating Golden State to face the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2016 NBA Finals, to now being a part of the team he lost to. He'll now be a teammate of stars Draymond Green, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

Stephen A. Smith, the outspoken host of ESPN's First Take, has weighed in with his opinion on the move.

"I'm viewing it as the weakest move I've ever seen from a superstar. Plain and simple, that's just how I look at it," Smith said. "It's not that he's leaving Oklahoma City. If you're not happy there, you wanna move on and you wanna grow as a player ... there's nothing wrong with that. He's one of the top three players in the world. He's a quintessential superstar. He deserves all the credit in the world for the talent he possesses

"But the flipside is this. (Oklahoma City) was up 3-1 in the Western Conference Finals," Smith continued. "Not one, not two, but three different times he was 48 minutes removed from getting to the NBA Finals by winning the Western Conference. Three times he failed. And you depart for the team that beat you? When you're on the cusp of getting to the Finals yourself? Ultimately, winning the championship for the franchise that you've been with since you've come into the NBA. I think it's incredibly weak. And I don't wanna hear any comparisons of that to LeBron James, when LeBron left Cleveland for South Beach. When LeBron left Cleveland the cupboard was bare."

Ouch!

A MUST SEE: The Inspirational Kevin Durant MVP Speech and Tribute To His Single Mom {VIDEO}

(ESPN) Kevin Durant is joining the Golden State Warriors.

Saying it has been "by far the most challenging few weeks in my professional life," Durant announced his decision Monday in a post on The Players' Tribune.

He is expected to sign a two-year, $54.3 million contract, sources told ESPN's Marc Stein. The deal would include a player option after the first year.

"The primary mandate I had for myself in making this decision was to have it based on the potential for my growth as a player -- as that has always steered me in the right direction," Durant wrote. "But I am also at a point in my life where it is of equal importance to find an opportunity that encourages my evolution as a man: moving out of my comfort zone to a new city and community which offers the greatest potential for my contribution and personal growth.

"With this in mind, I have decided that I am going to join the Golden State Warriors."

The contract can be finalized July 7, when a leaguewide moratorium is lifted on signings and trades.

With Durant's decision, the Warriors are unlikely to match the reported four-year, $95 million offer sheet that Harrison Barnes agreed to with the Dallas Mavericks.

The biggest catch on the free-agent market, Durant met with six teams the past three days: Oklahoma City, Golden State, San Antonio, Boston, Miami and the Los Angeles Clippers.

The 27-year-old Durant has spent all nine seasons of his career with the Thunder organization. He won the MVP in 2014, has been named first-team All-NBA five times and has made seven All-Star teams. He has appeared in four Western Conference finals and one NBA Finals, losing in five games to the Heat in 2012.

Durant bounced back last season to earn second-team All-NBA honors after undergoing three surgeries on his right foot to repair a Jones fracture suffered prior to the 2014-15 season, when he was limited to 27 games before undergoing a season-ending bone graft procedure in March. Without Durant, the Thunder missed the postseason.

With him back for 72 games last season, the Thunder improved to 55-27 and finished third in the West. The Thunder beat the Dallas Mavericks in five games in the opening round, upset the 67-win Spurs in six games in the second round and pushed the Warriors to seven games in the Western Conference finals.

Durant averaged 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 5.0 assists last season, and he scored at least 20 points in 67 straight games.

In nine seasons, Durant is averaging 27.4 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.

Information from ESPN's Chris Broussard and Royce Young was used in this report.

Oklahoma City Thunder player Kevin Durant won the NBA’s MVP award Tuesday night, in a powerful and emotional speech that’s earning the basketball star even more praise for not just his performance on the court, but also behind the microphone.

He began the 20-minute speech by talking about his childhood in Prince George’s County, a Maryland suburb just outside of Washington D.C.

“Me, my mom, my brother – we moved so many different places growing up, and it felt like a box, it felt like there was no getting out,” he said. He talked about his childhood dream, when his sights weren’t nearly as high as the NBA. He wanted to be a local coach, to help the kids.

“I’ve been through the toughest times with my family, but I’m still standing,” he said, his voice starting to crack.

Going the distance for your children

His tribute quickly turned to his teammates, as he tearfully thanked player after player, and coaches too, for supporting him along the way, caring for him and having his back when he faced tough times. He thanked the fans in Oklahoma for all their support, even when the team loses.

But some of his most touching moments came at the end as he thanked his mother, choking back tears.

“I don’t think you know what you did,” he said. “You had my brother when you were 18 years old. Three years later I came out. The odds were stacked against us, single parent with two boys by the time you were 21 years old.”

“Everybody told us we weren’t supposed to be here, we moved from apartment to apartment by ourselves,” he said. “One my best memories I have is when we moved into our first apartment. No bed, no furniture, we all just sat in the living room and just hugged each other, because we thought we made it.”

“You wake me up in the middle of the night in the summertimes, making me run up a hill, making me do push-ups, screaming at me from the sidelines of my games at eight or nine years old,” he continued. “We wasn’t supposed to be here. You made us believe, you kept us off the street, put clothes on our backs, food on the table. When you didn’t eat, you made sure we ate. You went to sleep hungry. You sacrificed for us. You’re the real MVP.”

Oh hell yeah @Omar, Hahahahahahahaha you know it to, I thought I was the only one that really knew what time it was wit the nba, aka the new WWE, people be like yo you cray for thinking that, but it's the facts, now everybody forgot how bron bron left cleveland, now he the king of the world. The only one I give him, is clevelands, the first 2 in miami, really suspect, and it made for a better story line, hometown boy brings home the championship, n**** please!

@ The Future...Well said. And I double down on that. This is no different when lil boy left Cleveland after almost getting it done w/his own team. Even if he does get it done w/another it won't mean squat in my book. Real superstars take aim at the opposition and they stand strong on their own. I see this dude doing exactly what Lebron did, with hopes of the same results. The facts are, he'll only win when corporate decides it's time. SMH LOLOL

Good dude, LI've him and his game, but a real cowards move, reminds me of that old saying, "You can't beat em, Join em", you go to the team that just beat you in the playoffs, by only one game? the nba has become watered down with talent, no real MEN, with substance anymore, willing to put in the work, one game from the finals, and you just leave the team you built, for the competition. .....Crazy these dudes just chasing rings now? Man, well thank that clown bron bron for this mess, he started it all. WHIMPS!!!!! He still not gone win a ring, I think he's just gonna mess up the worriors chemistry, watch....

As an OKC fan, I'm disappointed to see KD leave but he's free to sign with whichever team he feels give him a shot at winning a championship. He did so as a FREE AGENT and didn't break any rules. Later for Stephen A!
