According to reports, little Luz Maida was awoken and handed over to a man, who took her away. Reportedly, Salinas sold her daughter to her drug dealer boyfriend for 30 pieces of crack cocaine worth $12 (USD).
Although the footage is not clear, the report details that it shows the toddler, wearing a blue dress adorned with Disney’s Frozen characters, struggling to be free from a man who had her slung over his shoulder. The man was said to have slapped Luz multiple times as he carried her along a dirt road.
More than 24 hours later, residents discovered the toddler’s corpse on a bed, covered under a shirt, in an abandoned house. The police reported that the drug dealer raped and suffocated the little girl.
The mother of eight initially claimed that her daughter, Luz, had disappeared while she was sleeping, according to a report by The New York Post. The police shared that Salinas, whom they suspect was under the influence of drugs, appeared unbothered about her daughter’s whereabouts as the police conducted their search.

Later, Salinas confessed to selling her daughter for drugs after the police discovered CCTV footage, and her boyfriend also admitted to killing the toddler.
The confession led to an angry mob of locals attempting to lynch Salinas during her arrest. She, her boyfriend, and a 17-year-old, whom the police suspect is involved, were taken into custody.
At Luz’s funeral, over 300 locals paid their respects, and the residents later burned down the house where her body was discovered.
In addition to investigating Luz’s case, the police are also probing a case concerning allegations that Salinas allowed her 12-year-old daughter to be abused by a 30-year-old man.
