According to CNN at a press release earlier this year, the president and CEO of the Royal Caribbean International, Michael Bayley, called the Icon of the Seas the “best-performing new product launch” that they have ever had.
CNN also mentioned that the ship weighs approximately 250,800 tons and is almost 1,200 feet in length. With 2,350 crew members, it is able to accommodate up to 5,610 passengers on board.
The release also shared that over 2,000 specialists helped to make the Icon a reality with more than 350 hours of work put in and hundreds of miles travelled. Of those 2,000, over 450 specialists ran preliminary tests on the Icon for four days propellers, bows, and main engines worked properly, as well as ensuring the vibration and noise levels were appropriate.
The amenities included on the Icon consist of a waterpark (the largest at sea, featuring six water slides), a beach, a resort, a theme park, and over “40 ways to dine, drink and be entertained.” It will also feature the “Ultimate Family Townhouse” which is three stories and consists of a karaoke station, an in-suite slide, and many other hidden areas to explore.
