Do you remember back in 2002 when Ja Rule said that he was going to retire from rapping so he could focus on making movies? If you’re anything like me, you might have thought it was true because you haven’t really heard much from the Always On Time rapper in a minute (except when he was released from prison last year).
Well, recently he gave a statement about his retirement from rapping. After he performed on stage at the 12th Annual Desert Smash which benefitted St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Rancho Mirage, California, he discussed his plans for his career.
According to Billboard.com he said, “[this] will be my last [album] because I’m focusing more on film and television and my companies.”
Originally, this album was going to be called Genius Loves Company, however he’s changed the title of the album to Coup de Grâce (which means “Death Blow”). Although the project is supposed to be his last, Ja Rule is talking about producing a television show for Paramount. The show is based on the history of his record label, Murder Inc. Records.
Other than the album, Ja Rule is also a spokesperson for the credit card company, Magnises, as well as promoting a sneaker line with Steve Madden.
When it comes to his acting career, he’s appeared in Scary Movie 3, Assault on Precinct 13 and The Fast and the Furious.
Back in 2002, Ja spoke about his acting career:
“I’m a confident person,” he explained. “Anything I put my mind to, I can do it. I got that self-motivation theory from Michael Jordan. He’s the greatest self-motivator, and I feel I’m right behind him. I have this little saying: Success is obtained when opportunity meets preparation. You’d better be prepared when the opportunity comes.”
Who knows how his acting career will continue, but at least it’s nice to see that he has plans for the future. Hopefully it doesn’t include getting locked up again for tax evasion and criminal possession of a weapon.
