BUJU said that Bob Marley is not the greatest!

In the Jamaica Observer Buju Banton expressed the view that Bob Marley is not the greatest Jamaican musician and that this fixation on the reggae icon has hurt the growth of the music.

check out the story and give us your feedback. Banton respects Marley’s music but argued that calling him the greatest logically implies that no better can follow.
“I want Jamaican music to be seen not through the pretext of some man that died 20 years ago, but as a pretext of a living being, working earnestly. If man cannot do what others have done in these times we might as well die,” he told a mixed crowd at the launch of Rasta Got Soul his new album at the University of the West Indies on Thursday. “You know they say that the greatest musician in Jamaica is Bob Marley.

I don’t believe that, because we have greater musicians to come. Bob was the most promoted. And well promoted and we have to appreciate that because its our culture but don’t kill our culture with one living one. Enough is enough.” Do you agree?

IN TERMS OF GREATEST...IT DEPENDS ON EACH PERSONS TASTE....MY FAVORITE, MAY NOT BE YOURS...I BELIEVE THAT WE ARE ALL GREAT IN OUR OWN WAY AT WHATEVER IT IS THAT WE DO !!!IN MY OPINION THE GREATEST OF ALL TIMES IS THE MOST HIGH WHO MAKES IT ALL POSSIBLE!!! THERE ARE THOSE WHOS CONTRIBUTION ARE REVEARED AS GREAT, BECAUSE OF THE UNIVERSAL IMPACT THAT THEY HAVE MADE ALONG THEIR JOURNEY. FOR INSTANCE, MUHAMMED ALI THE GREATEST OF ALL TIMES, OPENED THE DOOR FOR MIKE TYSON, JULIUS ERVING OPENED THE DOOR FOR MICHAEL JORDON,ARTHUR ASHE OPENED THE DOOR FOR THE WILLIAMS SISTERS, JAMES BROWN OPENED THE DOOR FOR MICHAEL JACKSON AND MARTIN LUTHER KING OPENED THE DOOR FOR PRESIDENT OBAMA.
SEE WHAT I AM SAYING BELOVED, THE GREATNESS OF ONE PASSES ONE TO ANOTHER TO ACHIEVE MORE GREATNESS TO GLORIFY THE MOST HIGH, AND TO ULTIMATELY TAKE THERE GENRE OR FIELD TO ANOTHER LEVEL.BUJU IS THE GREATEST BUJU BANTON RIGHT NOW!!! AND HE WILL ONLY BECOME GREATER BECAUSE OF HIS PASSION, DRIVE AND LOVE FOR HIS MUSIC, FANS AND CULTURE. HE HAS AND WILL INSPIRE ANOTHER GENERATION THAT WILL HAIL HIM AS THE UNDISPUTED KING AND THE GREATEST OF ALL TIMES.......AND GUESS WHAT...ANOTHER YOUNG STAR IS WATCHING AND LISTENING TO BUJU AND PRAYING THAT ONE DAY HE WILL GET THE CHANCE TO BE HEARD AND TAKE A SHOT AT BECOMING, THE GREATEST!

What is the difference between Bob Marley and Peter Tosh. Even the people of the musical Revolution is themselves blinded to all the Truth. Reggae is the musical revelation of the Bible, and is the resurrection of the written words. There are those that were already chosen to fulfil that which is written.
Marley is of the Tribe of Joseph. It is Joseph that was thrown into the well. It is the Well that rescued him (Chris Black-well) to be made head in Egypt and feed his brothers. Bob opened the door for the rest to find food as it is written. He was chosen by the creator because of his birth. He is the balance to bring the World, both the Day (white) and the Night (black) together.
He is the Peace and Unity that was sent to the World and no one can do what has already been destined.
Much is not said of Peter. Unlike Bob he was chosen to bring Judgement and that is what everyone fear. Peter is the one that cut off the ears of the soldier, and the one that deny Cry-i-st. Yet he was the one that Cry-i-st called the Rock upon which his Church (Jahrusalem will be built) It is not difficult to see why he was chosen. Jahrusalem is Holy, and he sang the Holiest of song in Reggae or any other music form including Gospel. The song is "The Day The Dollar Die". Because these two Witnesses were chosen there is none that can come after to climb higher than they. Bob Marley is sent to gather. Peter Tosh is sent to bring judgement. It it is out of the judgement that Salvation is born. If those born out of the House of music overstand the Spiritual fulfilment of the music then they would be more unified than critical of those that were chosen to fulfil the Written Words.

I am a huge Buju Banton fan!! I can't say that I am a huge Bob Marley fan. I like some of his songs. Bob Marley is not the founder of reggae, but he is one of artists who made it well known worldwide to make it big. Reggae music started back in 1968 with Toots and Maytals. Toots made the first hit reggae record called "Do the Reggae," back in 1968. Bob was doing music already but he wasn't out there just yet. Do the research and read about the TRUE history of reggae music. I think Buju is just pointing out that yes Bob is a legend, but let's not forgot those other artists that came before him and after him. Let's not forget about Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff, Sly and Robbie, etc. Matter of fact, I plan to see Buju soon. I will personally ask him why he feels that way.
In Reality, if Bob Marley is not the greatest Jamaican, then Elvis was not the King of Rock N Roll. Lol!

I love buju music he is an incredible artist. But I have to disagree with him completely on this subject.Bob marley is to reggae what Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield were to soul music. Once in a lifetime artists that were years ahead of their time. you can play any of their music today and it sounds like it was written yesterday. If anything is holding back reggae today it is artist not excepting other artists A Sean Paul to some jamaicans is not considered a REAL JAMAICAN B.S like that I think could hold back reggae music
