Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Fixes Her Wig While Running The 200m

On her way to victory in the women’s 200m heat at the World Athletics Championships, five-time Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce took a few seconds to fix her signature coloured green wig while still managing to qualify for the semi-finals.

“I had my hair done, coloured from home, and I packed them. I had different hair stylists here install them for me. This one I actually did myself,” she said.

Despite the minor wig adjustment, Fraser-Pryce managed to advance to the semi-finals by completing the race in a time of 22.26 seconds. Fellow Jamaican competitors and teammates also qualified; Elaine Thompson-Herah completed with a time of 22.27 seconds and Shericka Jackson with a time of 22.33 seconds.

Watch Fraser-Pryce fixing her wig while running below:

During the race, Fraser-Pryce can be seen running swiftly around the bend of the track, then momentarily raising her right hand to adjust her wig from slipping. After completion, she stated that she packed a total of 10 wigs in her bag from her home country and brought them for the event. This specific wig she said is the only one that she did herself.

@Jesse, I hear you, but, at the end of the day, when you see the process that these wigs go thru, you might be amazed.  Also, they cause problems to the scalp.  My concern is not the other nations, I only care about what our sisters put themselves thru.  I understand the hard work that it takes to maintain an afro, but at the end of the day we have other cultures coming into our neighborhoods, and selling us stuff that in all reality, we don't need them or their products.  We have become a nation of following the other nations and wanting to look like them. Come on now and think about it, we (most of us) have woolly type hair, how in God's name I see our sisters rocking a wig with hair texture not even close to ours.  We should stop supporting those Arabs & Asians selling that crap in our neighborhoods.  How many times have Asians beat up our sisters in their stores over hair?  We boycott the store for about a week then we take our money right back to the same people that harmed us.  Do you know how money works in other ethnic groups?  Before their money leaves their neighborhoods, it bounces within that same neighborhood about 7 times or more before it leaves.  With our people, as soon as we get some change, we go buy a pair of $300 sneakers.  We drive the most expensive cars, but live in a shoe box.  We spend the most money in the country, yet we have the least to show.  And also, this may come as garbage, but the hair the sisters are buying goes thru certain rituals and rites that's not healthy for us.  But again, it may sound like garbage.  I saw a video of them collecting hair in India.  It's a ritual where they go to the temple, make prayers, then shave their heads.  Some people will think that's bullshyte, but yet they will believe in voodoo and other things.

I don't think black women wearing wigs or weaves is self-hate.  The fact is afro hair is very hard to manage.  It gets tangled and knotty.  I go through a lot trying to take the tangles out of my hair which is a lot of work.

White women might not wear afro wigs or weaves on their heads, but a lot of white women in the entertainment industry do wear hair extensions to add extra volume to their thin hair like Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Megan McCain, the Kardashians and others.  So wearing extra hair, hair that is not yours is both a black and white issue, no different from when men wear toupees, hair that is not theirs.

I think that's interesting how she can slightly divide her concentration and still qualify. Tremendous split focus, that "split" is definitely newsworthy.

And also, look at our people, that wig looks stupid.  She looks like a damn clown.  See, that's what our people have become......clowns in the circus where everyone chuckles and laughs at us.  But hey, I guess we should keep on clowning, and playing sports while the whole world is falling in.

Ok Marc.....I'm sorry.  I didn't know running and playing games is something considered doing something for your country.  It used to be serving in the military, or fighting for something you believe in, but okay.  So that's what black folks are only known for? Forgive anyone for having an opinion about our women wearing hair that is not theirs.  Hey, a black person that should have one type of hair, wearing long stringy hair that's not our textured type of hair and if someone speaks on it, they dumb.  No, a person that doesn't acknowledge or want to associate with who they are, they're the dummies.  Wearing that hair is right next to bleaching their skin.  Hey for those who like sports, enjoy sports, but did you know all these arenas are replicas of the coliseum where our people played sports for our lives?  Only now they're not killing each other in the arenas.  The same way we excel at sports in today's world, is the same way we were leading in the arenas back then, but hey you only see things from eye level and not a historical level or a spiritual level.

We are the only group of people that will tear each other down because you don’t have anything else better to do. Let that woman wear whatever pleases her on her head. She gave more for her country than anyone of you dummies but gets crucified for her hair.

I don’t think our women realize it’s a form of self hate, similar to bleaching. In the work place or on the streets, count how many black women wear Caucasian hair on their heads...then count how many white women wear Afro wigs or weaves on their heads. Do you see the problem?

I was around in the 60’s & 70’s when we developed pride from our ancestral heritage .  It seems subsequent generations lost their way for a a number of reasons.   Without a cultural ancestry identity, we have become anything other cultures wants us to be. This scenario is what happens when subordinate culture members no longer understand their original culture.  The culture loses it cultural identity because of generations of not practicing the concept regularly.
