DMX dead at 50 one week after 'overdose' and heart attack: Family pay tribute to 'iconic' rapper 'who fought till the very end'

DMX Received Covid Vaccine Days Before Heart Attack - Family Says NO DRUGS

Rap icon DMX has died.

After a week of being on life support, DMX has passed, his family confirmed via a statement. Last night rumors of his death started spreading on social media, but that was cleared up by his manager, who assured us that he was still on life support. Nevertheless, this morning TMZ reported that he had multiple organ failures forcing his family to make a difficult decision to take him off life support.

“We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50 years old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days. Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end,” a statement from his family reads. “He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever.”

DMX’s family also thanked his millions of fans and peers in hip hop who prayed for him while asking for privacy as they grieve his death.
DMX, who is widely regarded as one of the most commercially successful rappers in history, suffered a drug overdose last week and was rushed to the White Plains Hospital in New York. His brain was deprived of oxygen for a reported half an hour which left him hospitalized in a vegetative state. He had remained on life support since then while doctors figured out if he had any brain activity. That test concluded on Wednesday this week that there were no brain activities. That devastating news left the rapper’s family with the difficult decision to take him off life support.

DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, started rapping in the 1980s, where he would regularly perform with Ready Ron. In a previous interview, X blamed his former mentor, Ready Ron, for letting him try drugs as a 14-year-old, the day he said his long battle with drug addiction started.

After a slew of stints behind bars for various crimes, DMX started taking his music career more serious in the 90s, signing a deal with Columbia Records’ Ruffhouse label and went on to deliver his debut album, It’s Dark and Hell is Hot, in 1998 and a second album that same year, Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood, making him only the second rapper after Tupac Shakur to release back to back albums. It’s Dark and Hell is Hot has since been certified 4X platinum, and Flesh of My Flesh is 3X platinum.

DMX also went on to be the face of Ruff Ryders Records, founded by brothers Darrin Dean, Joaquin Dean, and Chivon Dean. He also had a budding acting career with roles in films like Belly, Exit Wounds, Cradle 2 The Grave, Last Hour, and the hit movie Romeo Must Die, starring Aaliyah and Jet Li.

Last year, DMX reminded us of his talent when he did Verzuz with Snoop Dogg, making that episode one of the most memorable moments on the show, which started on Instagram Live.

As news of his passing spreads, tributes have been pouring in from all corners of hip hop.

'Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him,' the statement, shared via People, continued. 'Earl's music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever.'

'We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized.'

The tests had reportedly left his family with the agonizing decision over whether to keep the 50-year-old entertainer on life support.

White Plains Hospital released an additional statement which read: 'White Plains Hospital extends its deepest condolences to the family of Mr. Simmons, as well as his friends and legions of fans who expressed their unwavering support during this difficult time. Earl Simmons passed away peacefully with family present after suffering a catastrophic cardiac arrest.'

TMZ reported that the tests had proved there was 'no improvement in brain activity' since the rapper was first rushed into hospital last Friday, after he was deprived of any oxygen for nearly half an hour.

The test results had been described as 'not good' in the Thursday report. His family requested that longtime friend and former manager Steve Rifkind fly to New York on Friday to be by his side.

TMZ reported Monday that some of DMX's 15 children had been visiting him in the hospital.

Later that same day, a prayer vigil was held by family, friends and fans outside the hospital where DMX was receiving care in White Plains, New York.

DMX has been holding on to life for several days after allegedly overdosing and subsequently having a heart attack.

'On Friday night, April 2nd, 2021, our brother, son, father, and colleague DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, was admitted to White Plains (NY) Hospital, facing serious health issues,' the family said through a publicist before his death.

Hundreds Attend Pray Vigil for Rapper DMX in White Plains Screen Shot 2020-05-27 at 7.55.49 AM

Rap legend DMX, real name Earl Simmons, is currently in the ICU after suffering from a massive heart attack. Early reports speculated that DMX's condition may have been brought about because of an alleged drug overdose.

But we spoke with a member of the Simmons family who believes that it was NOT drugs that caused the heart attack.

In an EXCLUSIVE interview with DMX's family member who said that the rapper received the COVID vaccine about a week before he suffered from the heart attack.

DMX's family member told MTO News, "[DMX] got the vaccine when they opened it up to people over 50. He got it so that he could go travel and perform, stuff like that."

New York State opened up the COVID-19 vaccinations for people over the age of 50 in mid March.

And the family member suspects that DMX heart attack could have been a reaction to the vaccine. The family member explained, "Everyone [in the news] keeps saying that [DMX] had a drug overdose. How do they know. I'm in the family and no doctor told me anything about an overdose."

The family member is FURIOUS about the speculation surrounding DMX drug use. She told MTO News, "Yes he had past issues with drugs. But nobody knows that he had an OD. It's f**cked up that its being reported like that."

She - and the family - are considering taking legal action against news publications prematurely concluding that DMX  suffered a drug overdose.

But what is clear - according to the family member - is that DMX did take the Covid vaccine.

The grieving kin explained, "He took that vaccine, and he had a heart attack. I'm not saying the vaccine did it, but he never had a heart attack before."

Over 167 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered in the United States from December 14, 2020, through April 5, 2021. During this time, The CDC received only 2,794 reports of death among people who received a COVID-19 vaccine.

DMX‘s lawyer has clarified that the rapper remained on life support Saturday afternoon at a Westchester, NY hospital after suffering a heart attack. Earlier, based on a statement from the attorney, we reported that the entertainer was breathing on his own.

The 50-year-old rapper behind such hits as “Yall Gon’ Make Me Lose My Mind” and “X Gon Give It to Ya” was taken to White Plains Hospital around 11pm Friday from his nearby home, and soon placed on a ventilator, attorney Murray Richman said.

“It does not look good,” the worried-sounding lawyer told Page Six Saturday night.

Here’s more via Page Six:

Earlier Saturday night, Richman had told The Post that the rapper had been taken off life support, but that was a “misstatement,” he told Page Six.

The rapper is surrounded by friends and family members, Richman said.

“A lot of people are gathering at the hospital.”

DMX’s first wife and at least some of his 15 children are at the hospital with him, the attorney said.

The lawyer could not confirm a TMZ report that the rapper, who was born Earl Simmons, suffered the heart attack after an apparent overdose.

“I refuse to vouch for that because I have no personal knowledge,” the lawyer said.

DMX Health Update: Rapper Off Life Support Following Heart Attack Caused by OD / VIDEO

maxresdefault-219

Rapper DMX is currently on life support, after suffering an alleged drug overdose. Police in DMX home town of Yonkers, NY are looking for the person who sold DMX the drugs - that may have taken the rapper's life.

And according to one family member, if DMX dies - they will be looking to prosecute the drug dealer with MURDER.

The family member, who spoke on a condition of anonymity, explained, "Police are involved. They're looking to find and arrest whoever did this to [DMX."

DMX's last drug related arrest came in 2018, when he was arrested for leaving a court-ordered drug treatment program. Police say that at the time - the rapper was back on drugs, and using cocaine and Oxycodone.

And those are two DEADLY drugs these days.

The area where DMX lives has been suffering from a wave of overdoses - linked to cocaine laced with the deadly additive fentanyl.

Last month, Yonkers police confirmed that one person died and another is in "grave condition" after overdosing on a tainted batch of fentanyl-laced cocaine.

Four more overdose victims were rushed to the hospital but are expected to live. Yonkers police believe all six overdoses are connected to the same source.

Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid similar to morphine, is part of a lethal, nationwide drug epidemic that has been overshadowed and exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Between May 2019 and May 2020, America saw the highest number of overdose deaths ever recorded in a 12-month period, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

DMX’s lawyer has revealed a new update surrounding the rapper’s health condition after he reportedly suffered from a drug overdose.

Murray Richman, the rapper’s attorney, confirmed the update with ABC 7 who said his family informed him DMX has been taken off life support and is breathing on his own after suffering from a heart attack. The heart attack was reportedly triggered by a drug overdose that led the rapper to be rushed to a nearby hospital in White Plains, New York. However, Richman did not confirm the overdose in his statement.

“I received a call this morning that Earl Simmons was in the hospital, at the White Plains Hospital, and that he had had a heart attack, and I’m not sure how it was induced.” Later he says, “He has been taken off life support system and is breathing on his own. But we are concerned.”

Rapper DMX was taken off life support Saturday evening at White Plains Hospital in New York and is breathing on his own but family members have said his life hangs in the balance.

The rapper's 15 children are all said to be flying to New York to be by his bedside.

Sources told TMZ that the 50-year-old rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, overdosed around 11pm on Friday and was rushed to the hospital where he is now in critical care.

One relative explained to TMZ that paramedics tried had to resuscitate him for 30 minutes when he was taken to hospital on Friday night, during which time he was deprived of oxygen for some time.

Doctors say the lack of oxygen severely affected his brain, with one family member saying 'It's not looking good.'

Although he has been described as having 'some brain activity,' doctors are still worried that he may not pull through.

Details on what may have caused the heart attack were not provided and Richman said he could not confirm reports that DMX overdosed on drugs.

'He had a heart attack. He´s quite ill,' his lawyer Murray Richman said. 'I'm very sad about it, extremely sad. He's like my son.

'He´s just a tremendous person, tremendous entertainer, tremendous human being. And so much to offer, so much to say. Not the run-of-the-mill rapper. A person of great depth.'

A multitude of rappers and other artists tweeted positive thoughts at hearing the news that he was in the hospital.

DMX made a splash in rap music in 1998 with his first studio album 'It's Dark and Hell is Hot,' which debuted No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.

The multi-platinum selling album was anchored by several hits including 'Ruff Ryders´Anthem,' 'Get At Me Dog' and 'Stop Being Greedy.'

The artist endured a grim childhood, growing up in housing projects with his mother and five sisters where he suffered abuse, and had continued run-ins with the penal system throughout his life, even after he achieved celebrity.

DMX, who is considered one of the biggest artists of the 90s and early 2000s rap era, has battled substance abuse in the past and has checked into rehab several times over the years.

His last known stint was in October 2019, ten months after his release from prison, but was seen performing on stage again just two months later.

The rapper is not known to have shown any signs of a potential relapse since, and he had been photographed at a public event as recently as February.

DMX was known to have suffered from addiction to drugs including crack, which he has said began as early as age 14.

'I didn't really have anybody to talk to,' he said in late 2020 in an emotional interview on Talib Kweli's weekly podcast.

'In the hood, nobody wants to hear that... Talking about your problems is viewed as a sign of weakness, when actually it's one of the bravest things you can do. One of the bravest things you can do is put it on the table, chop it up, and just let it out.'

DMX has been hospitalized after allegedly suffering a drug overdose at his home Friday

DMX has had a number of brushes with law involving drugs and other crimes over the years.

In January 2019, he was released from a West Virginia federal prison after serving a year behind bars for tax fraud.

He pleaded guilty in November 2017 to evading $1.7million in US tax payments between 2002 and 2005. On top of jail time, the Internal Revenue Service ordered him to pay $2.3million in restitution.

Prosecutors said the star had dodged taxes by living on cash, without maintaining a bank account or filing required tax returns to the IRS.

The native of Yonkers, a suburb of New York, was ordered to be under supervised release for three years.

DMX was said to have been preparing for a comeback during his first year as a free man and had signed a new record deal with Def Jam Records in September that year.

But the following month, just 10 months after his release, the star took to social media to announce he was checking into rehab for an unspecified amount of time.

'In his ongoing commitment to putting family and sobriety first, DMX has checked himself into a rehab facility. He apologizes for his cancelled shows and thanks his fans for their continued support,' the post read.

It is unclear how long DMX was in treatment, but by late December he was seen back on stage in Las Vegas where he performed at the Hakkasan Nightclub.

The rapper appeared to be in good spirits and addressed his troubles during the show with a rousing address between songs.

'When you fall down, get back up, everybody here has been through some s**t and you never know what God is willing to do for you until you need him to do something for you,' he said to the crowd.

'You won't know if he's willing to pick you up unless you fall down. You won't know if he's willing to help you find your way, unless you get lost,' he added.

DMX, whose deep, gravelly voice and dark, often violent lyrics catapulted him to fame in the early nineties, has a colorful criminal history.

The father of 15 has been arrested for a variety of offenses over the years including drug possession, reckless driving, animal cruelty and failing to pay child support.

Artistically he is best known for his 2000 smash hit 'Party Up (Up In Here),' in which he belittles other rappers.
