The economic union treaty is signed, what's next?



OECS leaders pushing their newly signed Economic Union, have been boasting that it will strengthen the integration process both in the sub-region and the wider Caricom.

The economic union treaty, signed 29 December, is expected to come into effect in June of next year.

Judge denies Stanford's plea for pretrial release

Without comment, US District Judge David Hittner on Wednesday issued an order denying the pleas from Stanford's lawyers and family that cited his physical and mental deterioration and inability to help prepare his defense.

Golding's gift - PM rolls back, adds new tax measures

Prime Minister Bruce Golding last night announced a roll back of the General Consumption Tax (GCT) items, which currently do not attract the tax.



This means that items like, breads, bulla, crackers, salt, eggs, cooking oil and sanitary napkins will continue to be tax-free.

The Narcotics Police are on Tuesday afternoon probing what they believe is a major drug network operating at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA).
