About the author

Williams is an attorney with a Doctor of Jurisprudence from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, and a Masters Degree in Health Law from Seton Hall University. Cathleen Williams, Esquire is a licensed attorney with a general Law practice in Queens, New York. And if that wasn't enough, she is also a registered nurse with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Delaware.

"I am more than humbled and extremely grateful to the South East Queens County Young Democrats for this award," stated Williams. "To be selected by this critically important organization, and amongst these very powerful and very dedicated women, is a tremendous honor; to be chosen for the Maya Angelou Award, a woman I hold in great esteem, is priceless."

Although involved with innumerable initiatives while supporting countless causes and organizations, most notably is her passion for educating boys. She is the founder of S.W.A.G. University, a program that connects young adults with community leaders, business owners, and other accomplished members of the New York community who teach them to become men and women of S.W.A.G.: Sophistication, wisdom, accountability, and greatness. She is also the 2012 New York State International Men's Day Regional coordinator. She founded the Great Men of Excellence Academy of Kings Awards, an annual awards program that honors men of excellence and young men of promise.

The single mother of a young man who was educated in the New York City public school system, she knows first hand that it's possible to raise successful educated young men in the midst of challenging circumstances. Her mission is to improve the high school graduation rates of young black men in the United States by working with single parents, especially mothers raising sons. Ms. Williams is the author of Single Mother the New Father, Volume 1: Sports,The mother's playing field, secrets for navigating the man's world of amateur sports.
