Was Hip-Hop Better Back In The Day? {VIDEO}

Each time a gimmicky new act gets a little bit of success in hip-hop, we’re bound to hear older heads lament the decline of the genre they once held so dearly. But has the quality of hip-hop actually gotten worse over the years?

Yes it was to me.  More lyrical, and melodic. These days it sounds like every record has "chopsticks" playing in the background with some silly

rap over it... What happened to lyrical flow and melody? Not impressed none of today's rappers could stand up to EricB&Rakim, Grand Master Flash, KRS-1, Tupac, Biggie etc.

Groups like Whodini educated us with "Friends" and "One Love", The Fearless Four "Problems of the World Today" Melle Mel "The Message"  The Treacherous 3 and LL gave us vocabulary and dictation, Biz Mark was funny as well as the Fat Boyz. Just Ice, KRS, PE, Rakim, Guru, X Clan gave us Knowledge of self. It was exciting to go out to the club or the park even though it might get dangerous, for the most part it was "Peace, Love, Unity and Having Fun".

I like hip hop from my era....the 80s...I still listen to Run DMC, Salt N Pepa, Biz Markie, these are classics.  I still listen to MC Lyte, Chubb Rock...I love the old stuff.
