Russell Simmons pens letter to ex-friend Trump: ‘Wake the f**k up’

Russell Simmons cuts ties with former friend Donald Trump Russell Simmons pens letter to ex friend Trump: Wake the f**k up news russell simmons trump

Following President Donald Trump‘s astonishing remarks on the uprising of white supremacists in Charlottesville, his former friend, Russell Simmons, has penned an open letter calling on the nation’s leader to change his tune–for America’s sake.

“If you do not change your course immediately, you will go down in history as the great divider, the destroyer of the environment and the embodiment of everything we as Americans have fought so hard to call ours,” Simmons wrote in a piece published in the New York Daily News.

“The racist, bigoted movements you are feeding now are gaining power by your words, actions and refusal to hold people accountable for the destruction they are causing in your name.”

In the letter, Simmons recalls a different Trump from their days as New York City millionaires. “Do you remember all of your New York Jewish and African-American friends you probably spent more time hanging out with than all the WASPs you could find? Do you remember making sure Jews who were turned away at other country clubs had an open door policy at Mar-a-lago?

“I do. That was the Donald I called friend. That is the Donald I know. Where is he now? I have to believe he is still in there, somewhere.”

If Trump doesn’t come around on his stance on certain social and policy issues, Simmons argues, America could be in jeopardy of becoming yet another global tragedy, or as he puts it: “It takes but a second for disaster to strike.”

He writes:

Remember Rwanda? As I assume you know, it was started by extreme Hutu nationalists in the capital of Kigali and soon before anyone could stop it, the genocide spread throughout the country with staggering speed and brutality. Previously law-abiding citizens were incited and encouraged by local officials and the Hutu Power government to turn on their neighbors. Sound familiar?

History, and even more, Trump’s legacy is on the line, Simmons warns. “. ..the Trump name will come to be regarded in American history as a wannabe dictator who surrounded himself with bigots, white supremacists and money-hungry wolves.”

Still, the hip-hop mogul says it’s not too late for Trump to turn things around. “You can find your highest self. You can become conscious. Scripture tells us the Donald I knew — or an even greater Donald — is still there inside you, sleeping,” he writes. “It is time to wake him the f— up.”

On Monday night, Russell Simmons announced that he was cutting ties with President Donald Trump, whom he once considered to be a friend.

“He wrote the foreword to my first two books — I know him very well,” Simmons told the New York Daily News. He later added, “I was with him on his first date with Melania. We were friends for many years.”
“Not anymore,” he said. “I’m sure he doesn’t consider me a friend after some of the statements I’ve made.”
Simmons has been an outspoken critic of the president since he announced his candidacy in 2015, and Simmons admitted that the split between himself and Trump happened when he compared Trump to Kim Kardashian.
“We haven’t been friends since the day he announced and I said, ‘I’d rather Kim Kardashian be President’ so he called the office and that was the end of our friendship,” he said.
“I didn’t pick the phone up,” Simmons said, adding that he asked his assistant to tell Trump to look the interview up on Google if he had any questions about the content. “I said, ‘It’s on video! Tell him it’s on video!’ And we didn’t speak after that.”

Well done what! He wrote a letter. Did he put the letter on an add on FOX news? No. So trump will never hear it being read because we know he doesn't read well. Besides this letter is a farse. He knew what kind of person Donald trump was back in the day with all his bankruptcies, lawsuits against blacks in housing and the Central Park 5 to name a few. Yet Russell only cares now that the whole world knows what kind of person Donald was and still is at 71yrs old.

The character of President Obama's efforts has done so much toward the empowerment of our Black Family.

It is hard to imagine what America will be like now he is gone, especially for US!

Now that Obama is out office, we have to do like Harriet Tubman...........................

Why Don't More Black Achievers  Advocate for Blacks?

Why haven't they been speaking out in the public media using the power of their money and position, like: Martin L. King,  Marcus Garvey,  Nina Simone, James Baldwin, Danny Glover, James Brown, Ruby Dee, Ossie Davis, Mos Def, Tupac, Audre Lorde, Kareem Jabbar, Andrew Young, etc... I could go on and on naming influential African Americans who have set the bar higher than  today's individuals have reached.

Our so called Black Elitist need to stop trying to Fitting-In. Or is it that their money comes only at the blessings of the CORPORATIONS?

I can remember the backlash Oprah received from her viewers when she endorsed President Obama.
So to me, they could / should operate more like Harriet Tubman...

We as a People, some of us have been fighting, struggling, others are crying, and even begging for equity in the "American Dream."

The idea that, "Charity begins at home" is not separatism nor selfishness. The neglecting of ourselves and relying on others to provide for us nurtures that negative perception other families have of our community.

First off, "Boycott," then start our own enterprising, supporting our own, in our own neighborhoods.

Our so called Black Elitist need to stop trying to Fitting-In, "What they don't realize that They are serious when They say that no matter which ethnic group referring, we all look alike to THEM?"

Black Achievers could return some of their blessings, whether it is wealth and or intellect, and reinvest in the neighborhoods that were abandoned after Affirmative Action.

Yes, I feel the Black Family should be financing our on images, businesses, schools, health and senior citizen facilities, etc., but then there is the struggle to get out into Their controlled industry.

Before Affirmative Action these same individuals, like Ms. Oprah Winfrey would have been right there investing in their own neighborhoods, instead of outside.

"No one person can rise above the conditions of their people," - Malcolm X, this is about rebuilding our families and our communities.

Then again We All don't feel the same way.

Rioting and destroying our own communities will accomplish nothing, but more Negativity.

All of this out cry should be the catalyst to our realization that we have to start doing for ourselves again, this will be our real strength in backlash.

When proof of the discrimination, direct or subversive, is documented, then take your case to the media and the streets, "Remember the World is Watching."

Before Affirmative Action

I feel Mr. Trump will be the best thing that has happened for Black Americans with the realization not to expect any special attention or assistance, and with Ms. Clinton, It would have been business as usual with the Republicans trying to block every effort she would make.

..., By Their Own Rules
