Democratic Sen. Kamala Harris, who launched her presidential campaign last month, said Monday morning that she smoked marijuana in college, wants it legalized and remembers what it felt like to be high.

'I have. And I inhaled. I did inhale. It was a long time ago, but yes. I just broke news,' Harris said through a cascade of laughter on New York City's hip-hop radio program 'The Breakfast Club.'

'You know, I joke about it – half joke – but half my family's from Jamaica! Are you kidding me?

'It was a joint,' Harris recalled, saying that she remember what it felt like to be high on the drug.

'Listen: I think it gives a lot of people joy, and we need more joy!' she laughed later in the interview.

Harris said she has long been an advocate for states legalizing marijuana for medicinal purposes, and now ants ot legalized in general.

'I think we need to legalize marijuana,' she said Monday, adding that 'we need to move it on the schedule so that we can research the impact of weed on a developing brain.'

'Not all drugs are the same,' she insisted, while suggesting that criminalizing weed has disproportinately affected black men in America's criminal justice system.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (right) said during a September 2015 presidential primary debate that he had smoked pot, later tweeting: 'Sorry Mom'; President Donald Trump has said he never partook of drugs or alcohol other than communion wine

'We have incarcerated so many, particularly young men – and young men of color – in a way that we have not for the same level of use, other young men. And we've got to deal with that,' she said.

Recreational marijuana use is legal in 10 states and the District of Columbia. Thirty-three states have legalized medical marijuana. But the drug is still illegal under federal law – turning the pot trade into a volatile cash-only business that can't use FDIC-insured banks for deposits.

It has been nearly 29 years since presidential candidate Bill Clinton admitted that he had smoked weed but insisted that he 'didn't inhale.'

More than a quarter-century later, Libertarian Party presidential nominee Gary Johnson, a former New Mexico governor, said he was a regular pot smoker but stopped during the campaign: 'I want to be completely on top of my game, all cylinders.'

President Donald Trump has softened his 1990s-era view that states should legalize marijuana. He has said he has never taken an illegal drug or drunk alcohol, with the exception of communion wine.

His predecessor Barack Obama was famously open about his drug use, recalling in a memoir his teenage friendships in a group he called 'The Choom Gang.'

'I inhaled frequently. That was the point,' he told NBC News in 2006.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton claimed in 2016 when she ran against Trump that despite surrounding herself with counter-culture figures in her twenties, she has never smoked marijuana.

'I didn’t do it when I was young,' she said in a 2014 town hall. 'I’m not going to start now.'

Other presidnetial hopefuls have admitted toking in the past, including former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. After letting the cat out of the bag during a 2015 primary debate, he tweeted: 'Sorry Mom.'

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz's presidential campaign told DailyMail.com in 2016 that 'when he was a teenager, he foolishly experimented with marijuana. It was a mistake, and he's never tried it since.'

'Teenagers are often known for their lack of judgment, and Sen. Cruz was no exception,' the spokesperson said.

Obama

President Obama is being accused of sexism for publicly remarking on California Attorney General Kamala Harris's good looks at a fundraiser in San Francisco on Thursday.

According to a pool reporter who attended the event, Obama was doting on Harris, 48, 'noting a couple of times that she is, objectively, easy on the eyes.'

'She’s brilliant and she’s dedicated, she’s tough...She also happens to be, by far, the best looking attorney general,' Obama said, adding, 'It's true! C'mon!'

Commentators both liberal and conservative immediately took to Twitter to blast his remarks as 'unsettling,' 'disgraceful' and 'disrespectful.'

'Obama's comment about Kamala Harris is disgraceful and really terrible for workplace equality,' wrote Jonathan Chait of New York Magazine.

Added Rebecca Traister, writer for The New York Times Magazine and Salon, 'On What planet in [Obama's] mind did he think that sounded like the right thing to say?'

Obama's supporters argue that the president and Harris, who is not married, are good friends and that it shouldn't be considered a crime to compliment a women on her obvious good looks.

'The fact that this has in some way become a story about his overall respect of women (or lack thereof) is a slap in the face to the first lady, the first daughters, and every other woman who appreciates a compliment that extends far beyond appearance from the president or any other man,' Angela Rye, a Democratic political consultant, told Politico.

Michelle Obama has not commented on the controversy , but she did have a slip-up of her own on Thursday in a TV interview where she accidentally called herself a 'single mother.'

During an interview with Burlington, Vermont CBS affiliant WCAX, the first lady was discussing healthy foods and how the demands of raising a family can leave little time for nutritious cooking.

'Believe me, as a busy single mother, Obama said, before quickly correcting herself, 'Or I shouldn't say single - as a busy mother.'

Explaining her slip-up, she added, 'Sometimes, you know when you've got the husband who's president it can feel a little single. But he's there.'

Obama remarked on Harris' looks on the same day that Michelle Obama slipped up in an interview and called herself a 'single mother.'

Ms Harris is a Democratic favorite and a trailblazer in her home state.

Her mixed race descent - having been born of an Asian Indian mother who emigrated to the U.S. from Chennai and a Jamaican American father- made her the first female, African American and Asian American attorney general in the state.

On top of that, she is the first Indian American attorney general in the country.

Her career shows no sign of stopping, as she is regularly mentioned when pundits speculate about possible Supreme Court nominees should a new judge be appointed during President Obama's second term.

Another possible track for her is the gubernatorial one, as attorney general is a common springboard position for those hoping to climb the local ladder.

Little is known about her current romantic situation, except that she was in a serious relationship with the former mayor of San Francisco Willie Brown.

The two were a serious item and dated when he was the Speaker of the California State Assembly, but they reportedly broke up in 1998.

There are no pictures of President Obama and Ms Harris together at Thursday's event, which was a fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee held at the home of John Goldman, the heir to the Levi Strauss fortune.

We better face reality and put a true candidates up against this bully called Trump..
Because the Midwest, the South ,the west outnumber this small congregations of states that vote democratic.. , can't win a democratic election with just Chicago New York California and small percentages of Florida and South Carolina.
Get off ridiculous shows like the Breakfast Club and get on the trail like Obama did to win

...lots of people mistaken all Jamaicans for Rastas as they associate all Rastas with herb...true, the Rastaman has long known the benefits of the herb, economically as well as spiritually; I, even I, ever advocate that herb is for the people and we will always make it a part of our lives, no matter where we live on earth, and regardless of what the hypocritical lawmakers and politicians may say, even now, when so many want to say "I am for the legalization of marijuana", because they are the same ones who legalise alcohol and tobacco, two of the most dangerous drugs to the human structure as proven by all the diseases that befall people who use those substances on a regular basis.

There is no comparison between the ganja plant, alcohol and tobacco; the former was created by the FATHER for the service of man; the latter were manufactured. I dare say if the good lady from Ca who's running for president of the USA wants to truly legalise ganja, she ought to take a stand like the AG in Baltimore Md.
