Oprah sells majority control of OWN in multi-million dollar deal

Oprah Winfrey has sold the majority control of the Oprah Winfrey Network.
The sale was made to Discovery Communications for $70 million, meaning the company now has 75 percent ownership of the network. Previously, Oprah and Discovery had run the network with joint 50-50 ownership.

While this means Discovery has the majority control, Oprah will still remain on as the chief executive for the network.
“Creating OWN and seeing it flourish, supported by Discovery and a rapidly growing group of the finest storytellers in film and television, is one of my proudest achievements,” Oprah said in a statement.
It will be interesting to see what this means for OWN going forward.

Dr. Phillip Valentine its bigger than that as you can see the harvey part is really not that important people dont talk about it no more he is taking all the weight alone as even overseas are investigating him and do not mention oprah it is systematic with power, any black companies that explode and will become a problem of,competition they will take over, those heavy weight have so much money they will throw it ar any one for anything, and because they know most blacks cherish cash more than wealth, they will throw it at her

Ask your self how come warren buffet is not selling his companies unless he dont have no use for them, instead he is going around buying, how come they are not buying from him instead he is buying back stocks

Apple and google are buying back stocks instead of selling, even facebook is buying back stocks and also buying others like instagram. Its all about power oprah did not have to sell, and do not need discovery because her network is big enough to cut deals with franchise like the NfL, NBA come up with shows about blacks players. Do you know how much add money that would generate, produce more black shows where you can keep the black audience in one place ahe started with Tyler but TnT took that away from her negros are afraid to spend money in order to make money

When they cancelled under ground john legend approacn to team up with oprah she turned it down and said the budget was too much, now seriously with so many black people with money why not bringing some new partners to fund the project once you have all the viewers charge a premium package with the advertisers, cut deals with netflix, hulu, stringtv, i mean come on man there are so many ways she could hold on to that network, thats why most black shows and movies, or documentary are produce by white producers they get the back up and not afrais to invest

Now even BET had tk be aold by viacomm once it became a competition for MTV with 106 and park no one was watching MTV rgan they turn around and change the name of centric which is own by bet they call it her do you people see whats going on? They will take away anything that is black one way another because black people dont stand together, thats why i was one of the people who never turn my back on Bill Cosby i respect that man NBC have been trying to destroy cosby since the early because they want the rights to everything and he wouldnt sell or surrender, now they use white women to get him, a lot of that s*** dont even make sense but what did negros do as usual they stand with the white folks to crucify bill, thats why black businesses dont last, a white company can brag how they been in business since the 1800 now find a black company that can say that they are all have been sold

This is such bullshit rhetoric by Oprah. Sounds like this might be a pay-off for keeping her out the Hollywood scandal associated with Harvey Weinstein ... who was her "good friend"...

flores460 owns mean you started from bottom to the top with sweat and tears, oprah did not need discovery, if she owns all the rights from, her other shows, she could of give them to an investment bank as security for cash, and she could of gone public, first black network to go public and raised necessary funds, how about negros dont know how to build wealth, all they stand for is liquid cash which can be lost in one day, or rhey used her to gain the black audience, at 25% of the company that makes her a minority share holder no longet owner, but dont worry watch them push her out, they will buy the remainder in a year or two

Black people don't have the collateral that white people have. We don't practice collective economics. I bet when Oprah first started her network there was no one to help her but Discovery. So she partnered with them. Oprah had a vision of owning her own network and she did. We black prople talk a good game but we are also full of s***. That's why we have nothing collectively and those of us who do have something are forced to operate on our own. My hat off to all our people who. Put their money where their mouth is and do their own thing. Cause if we wait for others to get on board we would have nothing!

mr1stroke Absoutley 100% as usual. These people here don't understand she is/was the asset and the collateral

El-Bull enough said, always with the real, but dont say too much there are those who will argue the difference, they just dont get white America and corporate America, people dont get it, white people know the only way to stay in power and be important is to have money thats the only way to remain control, once they have money they make sure they have weapons to prorect their selves because of their crimes, so they uaed any one and give them money, but peopple dont undestand if you dont have any assets or collateral you are broke if money is all you have eventually theu can find a way to take it and break you, look at all the rich black people who have gone broke from business to hollywood and the music industry, they used them and spit them out, let oprah piss them off and aee what happens, remember when she first had own she was failing because all she had was white shows, she started getting with tyler perry and black shows came along now she on top, her programming changed with black viewers they dont need her anymore but black people will never send a message to white America, the best time to cripple those people was when viacom purchased BET thatnetworm should be out of business now

Mr. Johnsonmr1stroke        It was a business deal. They used her from the beginning to crank up the worth of the company, banking on her name and image because gullible people, especially Black people and women overall would buy into her being owner of a female/minority company. She was never expected to maintain control of the company which is why it was 50/50 from the start, as their money was what bank rolled it from the start. Now, the buy out is partial payback and a requirement as part of the contract/deal for her helping them to be a major player in the market.  WAKE UP PEOPLE IT WAS A BUSINESS DEAL, NOTHING MORE.......!!
