Kevin Hart Responds To Critics Over Jussie Smollett Support

Kevin Hart says he’s not hosting the Oscars: ‘I’m over it’
Kevin Hart Responds To Critics Over Jussie Smollett Support
Kevin Hart has responded to critics who slammed him for showing support to gay actor, Jussie Smollett after he was brutally attacked this week.

Hart, who was forced to step down from hosting the 2019 Oscars when old tweets, which were condemned by members of the LGBT community for being homophobic, sent the following message to Jussie:

“Sending prayers your way @jussiesmollett ….This is unbelievably sad,” Hart, 39, captioned on Instagram on Tuesday.

“Why are we going backwards….this is disgusting. We as people have to do better. WTF is going on the world???? Why are we falling in love with hate???? God damn it people….Choose love…I repeat…Choose love. I will forever choose love and I will continue to teach my kids how to do the same. Stand strong brother.”

It seems that some are not ready to accept Hart's several apologies, but the 'The Upside' actor is refusing to back down.

"I stand with a man in his time of hurt and need by giving him heart felt support and u take the time to harp on my 10yr past that I have apologized about and moved on from by being a better person,” he responded to TV writer Ira Madison III’s who challenged him online.

“Do you want change? If so I am an example of what u want people to do…CHANGE!”

Kevin Hart "Considering" Still Hosting The Oscars {Should He?}

Kevin Hart STEPS DOWN as 2019 Oscars host after refusing to apologize for homophobic tweets joking about 'f*gs' and AIDS and stand-up skit saying his 'biggest fear was his son growing up gay'
Kevin Hart "Considering" Still Hosting The Oscars

Hart was forced to step down after old tweets of his surfaced and he was accused of being homophobic. Initially, the comic refused to apologize, but once stepped down he offered up an apology to the LGBTQ community.
“It’s now becoming a cloud,” he told her.
“It was once the brightest star and the brightest light ever, and it just got real dark. The Oscars is no longer about Kevin Hart on that stage and taking an intense night and making it loose and fun. Now, it’s a little darker, because the conversation isn’t about me hosting the Oscars, it’s about Kevin Hart’s tweet from ten years ago and homophobia. I don’t want to make that night about me and my past when you have people who worked hard and stepped on that stage and received an award. I’m taking away from those moments because the night is focused on something else now. Because I saw it like that, I would much rather step down and apologize again.”

Hart wasn't completely closed to the opportunity.

“Leaving here I promise you I’m evaluating this conversation,” Hart told DeGeneres. “This is a conversation I needed to have, I’m glad I had it here. I’m glad it’s as authentic and real as I could’ve hoped it would be.”

“What we’re going to get to see on stage with you hosting the Oscars is sophistication, class, hilarity and you growing as a person,” DeGeneres told him. “Because most people would say, ‘I’m walking away … ’ For you to be the bigger man, for you to say I understand …and to not pay attention. There are so many haters out there. Whatever is going on in the internet, don’t pay attention to them. That’s a small group of peopel being very, very loud. We are a huge group of people who love you and want to see you how the Oscars.”

The interview will air on the Friday, Jan. 4. episode of Ellen.

Comedian Kevin will be hosting the 91st Academy Awards ceremony

Kevin Hart steps down from Oscars 2019 host after homophobic tweets

  • Kevin Hart stepped down from hosting the 2019 Oscars Thursday night
  • He had refused to apologize for anti-gay tweets from 2009 to 2011 that surfaced
  • The comedian revealed the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences had given him an ultimatum: apologize or they would seek a new host
  • The 39-year-old said he would 'pass on the apology' but hours later finally did apologize to the LGBTQ community as he stepped down from the hosting gig
  • Now-deleted tweets showed Hart using homophobic slurs and rhetoric
  • In a 2010 stand-up routine he said 'one of my biggest fears is my son growing up and being gay'
  • Hart said Tuesday when it was announced he would be hosting the Oscars that it had been a 'goal on my list for a long time'
  • Kevin Hart has stepped down as the host of the 2019amid a slew of backlash over years-old homophobic tweets that recently surfaced.

'I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year's Oscar's....this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists,' the comedian tweeted Thursday night, just two days after being named host. 'I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.'

His apology, however, has come too little too late after he revealed earlier in an Instagram video that the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences had given him an ultimatum: apologize for the comments or they would seek a new host.

Hart responded to the ultimatum in the video asserting that he chose to 'pass on the apology' because he had 'addressed this several times'.

Less than two hours later the 39-year-old changed his tune, issuing an apology to the LGBTQ community along with his resignation as Oscars host.

'I just got a call from the Academy and that call basically said, ''Kevin, apologize for your tweets of old or we're going to have to move on and find another host.'' I'm talking about the tweets from 2009 and 2010,'' the 39-year-old said in the Instagram video, which he recorded in  Australia where he's currently on The Kevin Hart Irresponsible Tour.

In a 2010 stand-up routine, he said 'one of my biggest fears is my son growing up and being gay'

'I chose to pass on the apology. The reason why I passed is because I've addressed this several times. This is not the first time this has come up. I've addressed it. I've spoken on it. I've said where the rights and wrongs were.

'I've said who I am now versus who I was then. I've done it. I'm not going to continue to go back and tap into the days of old when I've moved on and I'm in a completely different place in my life.'

This came after tweets dated from 2009 to 2011 surfaced in which the comedian spewed blatant anti-gay rhetoric.

In 2011, he wrote in a since-deleted tweet: 'Yo if my son comes home & try's 2 play with my daughters doll house I'm going 2 break it over his head & say n my voice ''stop that's gay.''

The comedian has since deleted the tweets, but that wasn't before screen captures began circulating online, gaining widespread criticism.

Earlier in the day, Hart responded to criticism in a way that further inflamed backlash just two days after he was named host of the upcoming Academy Awards.

He wrote on Instagram that critics should 'stop being negative'. In an accompanying video, a shirtless Hart lounging in bed warily said he wasn't going to 'let the craziness frustrate me.'

'I'm almost 40 years old. If you don't believe that people change, grow, evolve? I don't know what to tell you,' said Hart, who added, in all-caps: 'I love everybody.'

His refusal to admit fault and apologize for the tweets sparked public outcry for the removal of his hosting gig.

GLAAD, the advocacy group for LGBTQ rights, said it had reached out to Oscars broadcaster ABC, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences and Hart's management to 'discuss Kevin's anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and record.'

Hart's attitudes about homosexuality were also a well-known part of his stand-up act.

In the 2010 special Seriously Funny, he said 'one of my biggest fears is my son growing up and being gay.'

'Keep in mind, I'm not homophobic, I have nothing against gay people, do what you want to do, but me, being a heterosexual male, if I can prevent my son from being gay, I will,' Hart said in the routine.

Though he refused to apologize for his comments twice, by Thursday night he finally conceded.

'I'm sorry that I hurt people. I am evolving and want to continue to do so. My goal is to bring people together not tear us apart. Much love & appreciation to the Academy. I hope we can meet again,' Hart tweeted.

Comedian and actor Billy Eichner was among those on social media who were disappointed with Hart's initial response.

'This is not good. A simple, authentic apology showing any bit of understanding or remorse would have been so simple,' Eichner said. 'Like I tweeted a few weeks ago, Hollywood still has a real problem with gay men. On the surface it may not look like it. Underneath, it's far more complicated.'

The film academy on Tuesday announced Hart as host to its February ceremony.

'I am so happy to say that the day has finally come for me to host the Oscars,' Hart said in a heart-felt Instagram post two days ago.

'I am blown away simply because this has been a goal on my list for a long time... to be able to join the legendary list of hosts that have graced the stage is unbelievable. I know my mom is smiling from ear to ear right now.'

It's not the first time an Oscars host has been forced to answer for anti-gay remarks.

Ahead of the 2012 Academy Awards, producer Brett Ratner, who had been paired with host Eddie Murphy, resigned days after using a gay slur at a film screening. Murphy soon after exited, as well.

In a 2010 stand-up routine he said 'one of my biggest fears is my son growing up and being gay'. Hart is pictured with wife Eniko Parrish at the 2016 Oscars

Who cares? I'm a gay man and even I think gay people are too f****** sensitive. If someone don't like a gay person who the f*** cares? As longs as s*** ain't resulting in someone getting physically hurt? Idgaf. Niggas so damn soft these days. Always crying out something about hate. Get the f*** ova it. Not everyone gonna f*** with your gay ass..

He shouldn't apologize. IT IS A DOUBLE STANDARD. GAY people can talk AGAINST GOD'S STANDARDS,but when YOU SPEAK AGAINST their standards (the devil's standards),then it's called WRONG. SMH... UNFORTUNATELY, Kevin and many others have to apologize for offending satan because they want that money. THIS world is bugging!

See that’s what happens when you don’t come out of the closet, folks still think you’re straight. The man has been wearing dresses, hugging and kissing men on tv for years, but they didn’t catch on yet.

I'm glad he stepped down....he shouldn't have to apologize about something that was said years ago and during a comedy routine.  The whole point of being a comedian is to be funny and they make jokes about everybody.  I forgot we are living in a time when the slightest thing can a hurt your feelings...well man up world!  We can't say gay, retard, h***, the list goes on!
